Hello Therapeutic Lotus,

A True Sign of Early Spring!

About two weeks ago I walked into my home-based studio and to my surprise I noticed not one but two slow moving fumbling bumblebees. I had no idea where they came from, as it was still cold and snowy outside late February.

Upon some investigation and research I quickly learned that bumblebees hibernate in soil and can live for 3 to 4 years during a life cycle. Back in December due to the mild temperatures I noticed that my potted daffodiles were blooming, so I decided to bring the pot inside and watch the spring flowers bloom early. Thus it became clear to me that Harry and Sally the bumblebees emerged from the soil thinking it was spring!

I now have them living in my windowsill. I am feeding them fruit and sugar water and of course bought them some flowers. Once warm enough I shall release them outside and hope they continue their little cycle of life. I will miss Harry and Sally but it has been an amazing experience observing them and learning about how important they are to mother nature!

Fun Bumble Bee Facts:
They can’t see the colour red
Their favourite flower colours are purple, blue and yellow
They hibernate in soil and can survive harsh winter
temperatures
They help pollinate fruit and flower trees
Only the queen bee has the ability to sting and most likely will
not!
(So don’t fear them remember they are fuzzy clumsy little
friends in our gardens!)

HAPPY SPRING!!!!
