A few days before September 26, 2020 and during a โ€œsafeโ€ window during the pandemic, a man named Clarence and I matched on Hinge and started chatting.โฃ

After discovering we had things in common, we agreed to get drinks the following Saturday, and maybe food if the date was going well.โฃ

โ€œAre you Mike?โ€ I heard as I crossed the street, heading to our agreed meeting spot, a restaurant in Koreatown. There he was. Weโ€™ll both never forget that moment.โฃ
โฃ
I ordered a spicy chicken rice bowl, my face dripping with sweat as we talked about our love for K-Pop and got to know each other better. Needless to say, there was chemistry.โฃ
โฃ
I took him back to my place where, after watching some TV, I asked โ€œcan Iโ€ฆ give you a kiss?โ€ He said yes. During a pandemic, kissing this stranger was worth the risk.โฃ

Over the next year, as the world shut down and time stood still, we got to know each other more and more in what we now call our โ€œsnowglobe,โ€ our own bubble in space and time in what felt like an endless and magical winter.โฃ

We shared a fear, though, of whether we would still be compatible after the world opened back up and we returned to our โ€œregular lives,โ€ meeting each other friends and going back to our hobbies. We would be.โฃ

Over the next few years, we would drive to every small town within driving distance, visiting every cafe Clarence would spot out of the window of my Jeep. We would eventually travel farther to Quebec City, Ottawa, New York City and soon, Korea and Hong Kong.โฃ

We would go rafting, ice climbing, tobogganing, make pizza, enjoy countless beef and broccoli dishes and indulge in spontaneous photoshoots together, navigating bad days and tough moments with patience over hostility.โฃ

First things first, my bad for the inconsistent comparison photos ๐Ÿ˜‚ โฃ

I tend to not take before photos and just get right into the work when Iโ€™m not feeling my bestโฃ
โฃ
In the before photo, I was chronically stressed, managing a lot other peopleโ€™s bullsh*t ๐Ÿ˜‚โฃ

Since then, Iโ€™ve learned to set hard boundaries so I actually have energy for myselfโฃ
โฃ
Still in great shape, but not as lean and strong as I would like to beโฃ
โฃ
So if you want to lose 10 lbs in 60 days, hereโ€™s what I did โ€”โฃ

โ–ช๏ธ Set an ambitious goal and tell everyone.โฃ
โฃ
I signed up for (which I was NOT ready for when I signed up, lmao) and I told everyone, which has held me accountable. โฃ
โฃ
There have been times during training for this race where, if I hadnโ€™t paid for the run and told everyone I was doing it, I might have stopped working from my goals. ๐Ÿ‘€โฃ

โ–ช๏ธ Lift more weight and move more often.โฃ

If it doesnโ€™t challenge you, it doesnโ€™t change you. โฃ

If you walk in the gym and lift the same weight, youโ€™re going to look the same. If you donโ€™t burn more calories than usual, you wonโ€™t burn fat and youโ€™re going to look the SAME.โฃ

Iโ€™ve been training harder, more frequently and thereโ€™s just no easy way around it โ€” but let me tell you, it feels good.โฃ

The problem is that *actual junk food* in the quantities that *I* like to consume it conflicts with my goals.โฃ

Making protein ice cream, air popped popcorn and turning cottage cheese into creamy salad dressing are just some of the ways Iโ€™ve been able to get more nutrients and protein while eating โ€œjunk foodโ€ in large quantities. ๐Ÿ˜โฃ

It definitely hasnโ€™t been easy but itโ€™s been worth it and rewarding af.โฃ

I am going through one of the hardest in my life times right nowโฃโฃ

I didnโ€™t realize at the beginning of this year that I was laying the foundation for myself to not just survive but thrive during some of the most physically and mentally challenging times in my lifeโฃโฃ

Iโ€™ve learned that I often respond to stress by withdrawing and keeping to myself both physically at home, and in my relationships, which Iโ€™ve done off and on for many yearsโฃโฃ
โฃโฃ
Navigating through a lot of my life in the closet, I would carve my own path (๐š๐ฏ๐จ๐ข๐๐š๐ง๐œ๐ž) instead of dealing with anyone who made life harder along the way in (๐Ÿ๐ž๐š๐ซ) that they might out meโฃโฃ
โฃโฃ
At 35, I started to feel like the pain of avoidance, fear and being passive were greater than the risk I could take by asserting myself, setting boundaries and communicating my needs directly, even and especially if those whoโ€™s needs conflicted with mineโฃโฃ
โฃโฃ
And it was as if the universe knew that I would need strength in the coming months, I set ambitious goals (eg. ๐‡๐˜๐‘๐Ž๐—,) pushed myself out of my comfort zone socially () and leaned into feelings that made me uncomfortable instead of running away from themโฃโฃ

okay yโ€™all I have been wanting to try this for the longest time because I am a dairy queen and Iโ€™m also a busy queen so overnight oats were kind of made for meโฃ

1๏ธโƒฃ itโ€™s important to put the oats then milk first, as you need the milk to soak the oats to make them soft over time!โฃ

2๏ธโƒฃ do layers in a random order to keep things interesting, alternating between soggy and crunchy, if possibleโฃ

3๏ธโƒฃ there are NO RULES aside from putting the oats and milk first! add any fruit, nuts, seeds that you want! try keeping some things solid (like chunks of strawberries) and blending some things, (like nuts)โฃ

4๏ธโƒฃ ask chat gpt for help if you need it! just tell it all the ingredients you have in your cupboards that you want to use and it will make you a customized recipe in seconds!โฃ

I was in a great role doing great work for a marketing agency here in Toronto that was, outside of what I was producing for them, honestly such a flopโฃ

Around the time that I had enough, apparently so did theyโฃ ๐Ÿ˜‚

On the same day I was let go, I decided I was done working for someone elseโฃ
โฃ
I felt like I could make more of myself with my own two hands than I could for someone else using their materials and under their leadershipโฃ

With a lot more people asking me around this time based on my appearance if I was a personal trainer, it felt so natural to transform that energy into something where I was working directly with people helping them improve their appearanceโฃ
โฃ
So with absolutely no business presence, fitness photos and nothing to lose, I put an ad on Facebookโฃ
โฃ
And because this was back when it was a lot easier to get clients on the Internet organicallyโฃ ๐Ÿฅฒ

My ad blew the f*** upโฃ ๐Ÿ˜‚

And by the next week, I was training clientsโฃ

Caleb came to me in December 2024 wanting to feel better, healthier and more confident, feeling more comfortable working with an LGBTQ coach. ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ

Through his hard work and determination, Caleb was able to persevere through his busy schedule and difficult times halfway through the program and SMASH his goals to have a smaller waist, more defined shoulders and back as well as more chest and ab definition! ๐Ÿ”ฅ
