Are you feeling overwhelmed by stressful situations, life transitions, or the challenges of caring for an aging or anxious dog? Our dogs are deeply connected to us, picking up on our emotions and mirroring our stress. This can create an ongoing cycle where both you and your dog feed off each other’s anxiety.

But there’s a simple, effective way to break this cycle—Tapping.

What is Tapping?

Tapping (also known as EFT – Emotional Freedom Technique) is an evidence based, somatic technique that helps regulate emotions, reduce stress, and bring a sense of calm. Many people have never heard of it, but those who try it experience profound benefits for both themselves and their dogs.

Who Is This For?

Dog caregivers who are navigating:
* Life transitions that impact their pets (moves, new family members, lifestyle changes)
* The emotional weight of caring for an aging or sick dog
* Separation anxiety or attachment stress in their dog
* General stress, overwhelm, or frustration in their day-to-day life with their pet

Join us for this calming workshop for your dog, and gain lifelong calming skills for yourself!

This is a FREE workshop for my community. Can’t wait to see you there!

Tap along whenever you notice feelings of guilt arising, and you need to shift the energy to come back to a place of peace and calm.

As humans, I think we’re wired to feel guilt and shame, and I’ve really noticed that when talking with my clients in the last couple of weeks. Many of them are feeling that they are somehow responsible for their dog’s behaviour challenges, or that they’re making things worse for them.

There’s so many factors that we have to take into consideration when we’re looking at our dogs behaviour—genetics, early life and learning experiences, the stress levels of mum and dad, and how safe the environment was that they were in plus so much more.

All that to say that I hope you can give yourselves a little grace and compassion, and to let you know that you are not the reason that your dog has behavioural issues. If anybody that you’re working with professionally is telling you that you are then you need to get rid of those people.

Stay tuned for an upcoming tapping video that can help us when these intense feelings arise.

Can you relate to these feelings of guilt? Let me know in the comments.

In today’s digital world, we’re in on date with various opinions, training methods, and philosophies about how to raise dogs. It can be hard to know which information to trust and pay attention to. I get asked a lot by new caregivers what it is that they should be focussing on when they first bring their puppy or new rescue home.

For me, becoming a great observer is one of the most vital skills we can develop. It helps our dogs in these times of transition to build their confidence in us, and their new environment. Being able to understand their body language, how they communicate with those random and also when they’re experiencing stress, pain or discomfort is so important in building these relationships.

Healthy relationship, relationships need understanding, compassion, and mutual respect to succeed. Learning who our dogs are as individuals and how they navigate this world goes a long way and creating feelings of deep safety and helping them develop good coping skills.

Would you agree? Drop a 🧡 in the comments if this resonates.

Dogs are always trying to achieve balance, in the body and the brain. Being in a state of balance allows them to regulate more efficiently as-well as increase their window of tolerance and ability to cope.

In order for us to help them do that we need to prioritise meeting their needs. There’s a few key areas we can focus on:

• Safety
• Ingestion
• Body care
• Sleep

Instead of training start by understanding and meeting these vital needs. Focusing on these helps us raise healthy, confident and well-balanced dogs.

Drop a 🧡if this resonates with you.

Through Ruff Times is a program born out of love and grief. Through our years of outreach and community building, we have seen the real possibility of having to make a choice between one’s own health and wellbeing and the ability to ‘keep’ their furry family members.

🏠TEMPORARY PET CARE: cats/dogs are placed with volunteers so their person can access health & safety support services without worrying about, or losing, their companion.
We often hear, “I need to go to [hospital, shelter, treatment program, etc], but have no one who can look after my animal. I won’t go unless my cat/dog is okay.”

✨HOWL is a pet-related grief & loss support program. We honour the many phases of grief by providing supportive spaces for counselling, community and connection through our “Growing With Grief” care packages, one-on-one and support groups.

🦴RUFF PET FOOD PROGRAM supports economically disadvantaged human-animal families and community partners across Toronto. We offer dog & cat food, in addition to other pet supplies based on availability.

🚲 THE BIKE BRIGADE delivers cat/dog food to TRT community members who can’t travel to our location.

📍TRT is one of several programs at BREAKAWAY COMMUNITY SERVICES (registered charity).
