Pain rehabilitation takes just as much work as any other form of training (or more!) ⏰

Breaking the habits that led to an injury involves consistent, conscious effort. It’s a labour of love. (Love for your body, love for your mind, and love for the people in your life 🫶)

These habits can be about the way you move (or not move) 🏃‍♀️, how you eat 🍎, how you sleep 🛌, or even how you deal with your emotions 😮‍💨

Changing these habits will be practicing a new way of being. It will take work. (But it can be fun!)

And in time, it will be amazing.

He is certified in NeuroKinetic Therapy Level 3 and a teaching assistant 🤓, trained in Craniosacral Therapy 💀, has extensive experience with stroke patients 🧠, and was previously a sprint coach and varsity therapist 🏃🏾‍♀️.

Buddha likened life’s painful experiences to being pierced by an arrow 🏹

When you get hit by an arrow it hurts. 
What we then may do, however, is then shoot a second, self-inflicted arrow into ourselves.

Suffering is created when we reject the painful experience - judging them as bad or wrong, wallowing in the pain, laying blame, worrying that it will never stop, feeling sorry for ourselves… piling a lot of misery on top of the pain that’s already there.

Our thoughts have the capacity to make us miserable, and  for people with chronic pain, there is a direct correlation between negative thinking and the level of pain they experience 💭

Break the cycle; seek the silver (and golden) linings!

At the beginning, everything is gloriously possible. We visualize all the flashy parts. It’s exciting.

Then the reality sets in. The grind, the tedium, the sacrifices, the heart breaks and the non-fun.

But I think that if we keep our focus on our “why”, it makes the “how” easier.

May we keep mobilizing even when the days are dark.

As Mark Manson says: “No matter where you go, there’s a five-hundred-pound load of sh*t waiting for you. And that’s perfectly fine. The point isn’t to get away from the sh*t. The point is to find the sh*t you enjoy dealing with.”

Therefore…

- Getting a reward afterwards undermines the hard work

- Try not to spike dopamine before or after the effort- spike it during the effort

- During the activity, even if it's hard work, associate the effort and friction with feeling good in the moment (I.e. don’t make the reward better than the event itself)

Let’s talk about dopamine 🧠 (Pt.1)

Baseline dopamine determines levels of motivation and excitement for life and to pursue goals 🎯

It gets released in anticipation of a reward, so drives action to pursue said rewards 🏅 We get a spike, then our dopamine levels return back to normal after the reward.

However, constant doses of dopamine leads the brain to lower its baseline levels of dopamine, when things become overall less enjoyable 😕

Then, seeking the hit is less about getting dopamine and more about avoiding the pain of dopamine deficit. This underlies addiction.

How to break an addiction 📵 :

Research shows that it takes (for most cases) 30 days for a distorted pleasure-pain system to re-balance. Thus, try to avoid the activity for 30 days 🗓

Pure Motion Centre, located in the Willowdalebia recently celebrated their 3 year anniversary. 🎉🎊

Amy and Amanda (cofounders) wanted to create a space where they felt they could most effectively assist their patients, and that's why Pure Motion Centre was created.

From the private rooms to the relaxing vibe created by the diffusers, music, and plants, the clinic is centered around creating a welcoming and functional environment for the individual. They have worked with the Digital Service Squad to work on their organic and paid marketing strategies. The Digital Transformation Grant has allowed them to grow their clientele and create new content for social media.
