Move with confidence & find your centre ~ at every stage of life. For me it was my big toe… I had started practicing yoga to help relieve stress while I was attending Physiotherapy School. During one of my first classes an incredible instructor gave a subtle cue about my big toe while in triangle pose. Unexpectedly I felt an amazing opening along the side of my body and that was it, the pose and my life were forever changed! From that moment on I became passionate about exploring the body through yoga and learning to integrate the principles of yoga with my knowledge as a Physiotherapist. Through my studies I came to learn that yoga was much more than just the physical experience that I was so focused on. I began to see the way a consistent practice brought balance and light to my life and a deeper understanding of my true self. As a teacher my goal is to share this light with my students and for each student to leave the class feeling as though it was meant just for them. I look forward to sharing this practice with you!

As we settle into a new year, many of us are easing back into the routines of work, family life, and the habits we hope to maintain.

One thing I hear all the time in the clinic is:
“I know my exercises help… I just struggle to fit them in.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So I thought I’d start a new series sharing some of my favourite, realistic tips to help clients actually fit in their physio exercises.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Think:
✨ movement “snacks”
✨ pairing exercises with daily habits
✨ small moments that add up
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is Part 1 of 3, and we’re starting with the basics: small moments count, build a rhythm that works with your real life.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Save this for later & swipe through to get started 🤍

It felt so good to find my way back to an activity I love this weekend!
So many memories on my cross-country skis from my early years of physiotherapy practice while living in Calgary.

One of my goals this winter is to get out and enjoy the snow.
What are some of your favourite ways to embrace winter? Share them below, I need all the ideas… Toronto winters can feel long!❄️🤍

As the year winds down, there can be a quiet (or not so quiet) pressure to reset everything. New goals, big plans, a better version of yourself waiting on January 1.
  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But this season isn’t meant for overhauling.
It’s meant for going inward.
For rest.
For reflection.
For moving gently, rather than charging ahead.
  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Nature doesn’t rush into spring. It pauses, restores, gathers energy. And we’re allowed to do the same. It’s okay to tiptoe into the new year.
  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Last January, after a full year of returning to work full-time with three kids (including a busy two-year-old), I felt burnt out and tired of always trying to improve myself. More courses, more fixing, more doing.
So I made a different kind of resolution:
Once a month, I would let someone else take care of me.
Not self-improvement.
Not productivity.
Just receiving care.
  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That one simple commitment changed the rhythm of my year. Knowing that care was coming before I was completely depleted made all the difference.
  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And while paid services can be a barrier, care doesn’t have to be expensive to be meaningful. Some low- or no-cost ways to feel truly supported:
• Spread out benefits you already have over the year
• Trade childcare with a friend so each of you gets solo time
• Double a meal and swap dinners
• Go for a walk with someone who listens
• Volunteer, sometimes giving care is a powerful way to receive it, back.
  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some of the ways I received care this year:
✨ Caring for my body with a massage, a chiropractic treatment with and seeing a physio myself
✨ My first salt cave experience with the crew
✨ Getting my hair done + great conversation with .roberts
✨ A long walk with a friend
✨ Breathwork with great company
  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As we step toward a new year, maybe the question isn’t, What should I do more of?
But rather: Where can I soften? Who can help hold me?
If this resonates, feel free to share what “being cared for” looks like to you 🤍

As the year comes to a close, I just want to say thank you.
  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Thank you for being part of this community, for your trust, and for showing up for your health, even in the busy seasons. 🤍
  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As a small holiday gift, I’d love to share a progressive relaxation meditation I recorded to support rest, calm, and relaxation during the holidays or any day.
  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you’d like the link, drop a ✨ (or your favourite calming emoji) below and I’ll send it your way.
  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Wishing you moments of peace, rest and ease this season.

When there’s a lot to hold, personally and collectively, caring for our community can be one meaningful way to both make a difference and practice self-care. 🤍

That morning walk sliver of sunshine! ✨
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Today’s theme in the 12 Days to Feel Centred is: Gratitude. There’s so much I’m grateful for but this morning I’m especially grateful living so close to nature and getting out for these quick walks before work.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’ve had a few people ask if it’s too late to join the 12 Days? The answer is…It’s never too late to give yourself a little mindful reset.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The program is designed as a self paced email course. You can read when you have time now or save for the New Year. Feel free to message me with questions or check out the link: https://centredphysiotherapy.com/12-days-to-feel-centred

Hope everyone gets their own version of this sunshine today ☀️

Here’s one of my favourite ways to come back into the present moment when my mind is racing or the day feels full.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The 5-4-3-2-1 grounding exercise is a simple sensory practice that helps calm the nervous system by bringing you back into your body and your surroundings.
✨ 5 things you can see✨ 4 things you can touch✨ 3 things you can hear✨ 2 things you can smell✨ 1 thing you can taste
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It only takes a minute, and you can do it anywhere.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you’re craving more grounding moments like this, I’d love to have you join me for 12 Days to Feel Centred a gentle, supportive email series designed to help you reconnect with your breath, body, and sense of ease this season.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s not too late to join - we start tomorrow!!

I’m so excited to finally share something that’s been on my heart for years.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
12 Days to Feel Centred grew out of my own experience of drifting from my centre and gently finding my way back through breath, movement, rest, and the small practices that help me feel grounded again.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It also grew from years of physiotherapy study and practice, witnessing how stress shows up in the body and how simple tools to support the nervous system can make a meaningful difference.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, tense, or a little far from yourself, this is an invitation to begin stepping back toward your centre.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨ If this resonates, I’d love to meet you in your inbox.
We begin December 8. 🌿💛

About Centred Physiotherapy

One of the foundations of the physiotherapy profession is offering patient “Centred” care. That means care that takes into account all aspects of a patient’s life. Things like your work, your hobbies, your responsibilities, your goals, the things that nourish you and even the things that stress you.

Sarah believes exceptional care happens when both the therapist and client are “Centred” and working on these shared meaningful goals. For Sarah this is achieved by scheduling ample time and by offering one-on-one visits in the comfort of your home. Sarah’s approach is grounded in extensive post-graduate training, clinical experience and evidence-based practices.

Sarah gets to the “Centre” of the problem at hand by using an integrative approach to treatment including a detailed biomechanical exam, advanced training in manual therapy, thoughtful prescriptive exercise, and complementary tools such as acupuncture, yoga and mindfulness practices.

Through supportive listening Sarah connects with each client around what is meaningful to them and eagerly works with other health care providers such as family physicians and allied health practitioners to create a team approach to care.
