About LACCEPTT

LACCEPTT is an independent educational organization outside of the public universities and colleges whose aim is to study and research the works of Drs. R.D. Laing and David Cooper, especially the depth of influence played by the fields of existentialism and phenomenology. Laing and Cooper (good colleagues and friends of LACCEPTT Director, Dr. Stephen Ticktin) became famous in the 1960’s as radical psychiatrists who were critical of their profession and questioned the reality of mental illness, especially schizophrenia. They collaborated on several books and helped set up a charity in London England called the Philadelphia Association which offered residence in ordinary households as an alternative to going into mental hospitals. They had a great impact on what became known as the Anti-Psychiatry movement in the 60’s and 70’s which eventually morphed into the Critical Psychiatry Network by the end of the last century.

There will be an introductory course consisting of 7 seminars. Each seminar will run for 3 hours and will start at 2pm every second Sunday, beginning September 16th, 2018. The seminars will be conducted by Dr. Stephen Ticktin, Director.

A list of seminar topics and further information is available here.
