Dr. Peter Emary, OCA member / researcher and Debbie Hollahan (CEO, Langs Community Health Centre) along with patient partners delivered a panel presentation entitled, ‘Incorporating Chiropractic Care into Interprofessional Teams: Opportunities to Reduce Opioid Prescribing and Health-Related Costs,’ at the Alliance for Healthier Communities conference on June 4.

"If our pilot trial is successful, it will lay the groundwork for a larger definitive cluster randomized controlled trial on the impact of chiropractic care on opioid use among adults with chronic non-cancer spinal pain at Ontario’s community health centres (CHCs)," says Dr. Emary, who is also a postdoctoral fellow in the Michael G. DeGroote Institute for Pain Research and Care at McMaster University.

The research team will be using the OCA’s ‘Opioid and Pain Reduction Collaborative’ tools to help facilitate communication between chiropractors and physicians at the participating CHCs.
