Act #87 of Our 100 Acts of Kindness – Supporting the Abrigo Centre Gala 🚍✨

This past Saturday, March 28th, we were proud to once again support the Abrigo Centre Gala at the Pearson Convention Centre as the event’s transportation sponsor.

For many years, we’ve had the privilege of supporting the Abrigo Centre and helping ensure guests can travel safely and comfortably to and from this meaningful evening. This year, we were pleased to sponsor the bus that brought guests to the gala — with our own Cindy Ciampa joining the group for the ride. 🚍

The Abrigo Centre is an incredibly important organization within the Portuguese community in Toronto, offering a wide range of essential services including settlement support, family and youth programming, senior services, and community outreach. Their work also extends to providing critical support for victims of intimate partner violence, offering safety, guidance, and resources to those who need it most.

The gala itself was held to raise much-needed funds to continue supporting this vital mission, and it was a wonderful evening that brought the community together in support of such an important cause. Guests enjoyed a beautiful event that was capped off with a live band and dancing, creating a joyful and memorable atmosphere for all in attendance. 🎶

In addition to sponsoring the evening, several members of our team attended the gala and were able to experience firsthand the impact of the Abrigo Centre and the incredible community that surrounds it.

📸 Included are photos of the bus, our team at the gala, and moments from a truly special night.

One of the wonderful things about the annual Abrigo fundraising dinner is the participation of the seniors in our Life and Hope program. And without fail, each year our friends at Cardinal Funeral Homes are there to ensure all our seniors safely get to and from the event.

Thank you to Cardinal Funeral Homes for serving as our official Transportation Sponsor of our 2026 Building the Fire Within Gala. We are forever grateful for their tremendous support!

Act #86 of Our 100 Acts of Kindness – Supporting the Dave Reid Bonspiel 🥌🏆

On March 11th, we were proud to support the High Park Club and their Senior Men’s Bonspiel, now named the Dave Reid Bonspiel in honour of a longtime member whose contributions left a lasting impact on the club and its community.

Events like this are a wonderful way to bring people together — celebrating sport, friendship, and the legacy of those who helped build such strong community traditions.

Our own Cindy Ciampa was on hand to take in part of the day, and we were especially proud to once again present the Cardinal Cup to the winning team. 🏆

📸 The photo included in this post features the winning team alongside Pat, Dave’s wife, and Janus, Dave’s daughter — a meaningful moment that reflects both celebration and remembrance.

We’re grateful to continue supporting organizations like the High Park Club that foster connection, honour legacy, and bring communities together year after year.

💛 Act of Kindness #85

Last week Kim and Cindy had the pleasure of attending the 19th Annual International Women’s Day Luncheon hosted by the Federation of Portuguese Canadian Business & Professionals (FPCBP).

This meaningful gathering celebrates the many women who lead, support, and strengthen our Luso-Canadian community each day.

As part of the event, Cardinal Funeral Homes donated two purses filled with feminine care and personal essentials in support of The Purse Project York Region, an initiative that helps provide dignity and care to women who may be facing difficult circumstances.

We are always proud to be part of this special event and to stand alongside so many inspiring women who uplift our community with generosity and heart.

Act #84 of Our 100 Acts of Kindness – Seniors Active Living Fair ❤️🍪

On February 17th, we were pleased to participate in the Seniors Active Living Fair at the Waterfront Neighbourhood Centre, just down the street from our Bathurst location.

It was an engaging day filled with informative workshops, fitness demonstrations, and exhibitors sharing valuable services and resources for seniors across Toronto. We were grateful to be part of such a positive event in a welcoming and comfortable setting.

Two of our team members, Cindy and Kathy, had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful individuals, answer questions, and provide information about the work we do and the importance of thoughtful pre-planning.

And in the spirit of February — the month of love — we shared a little sweetness too, giving out heart-shaped cookies to those who stopped by our table. ❤️

Next month, we’ll be launching Caring for Tomorrow — Spring Planning Week, where we’ll share simple estate and funeral planning tools to help families get organized and feel more prepared. Because caring for tomorrow starts with caring today 🌷

Over the next week, we’ll also be sharing more moments from our 100 Acts of Kindness — including those heart cookies we were so happy to give out.

Act #83 of Our 100 Acts of Kindness – Supporting the Knights of Columbus Super Bowl Fundraiser 🏈🎟️

We were proud to once again support the Knights of Columbus - Sheptytsky Council #5079 and their annual Super Bowl Party & Fundraiser, which took place on February 8th.

As longtime supporters of this incredible council, we were happy to donate a pair of Toronto Raptors tickets to help raise additional funds for the evening’s charitable initiatives.

This fundraiser supports a number of meaningful causes, including:
• SickKids Hospital
• Canadian Ukraine Foundation
• Coats for Kids (Knights of Columbus)
• Ukrainian Canadian Social Services (Toronto) Inc.
• The Food Bank at Christ Church St. James

We are always inspired by the generosity and dedication of the Knights and their commitment to serving both the Ukrainian-Canadian community and the broader Toronto community.

Congratulations to Bohdan K., the lucky winner of the Raptors tickets — we hope you enjoy the game! 🏀

Act #82 of Our 100 Acts of Kindness – Supporting Banda do Sagrado Coração de Jesus 🎶🎄

We were happy to support the Banda Do Sagrado Coração De Jesus - Toronto and their annual Christmas party with a donation to help make their celebration a special one. This event was a wonderful opportunity to recognize the band for all the joy, culture, and tradition they bring to the Portuguese community in Toronto, particularly through their close connection to St. Helen’s Parish.

We’ve been longtime supporters of the band and deeply admire the dedication of its members. Founded in 1974, the Banda do Sagrado Coração de Jesus has spent decades enriching community life through music, faith, and fellowship — a legacy that continues to be felt today.

We’re grateful to play a small role in helping them celebrate the season and to acknowledge the important work they do year after year.

Act #81 of Our 100 Acts of Kindness – Sharing Christmas Cheer with Our Clergy 🎄💛

As we approach the Christmas season, we were grateful for the opportunity to once again share a small token of appreciation with the clergy we work so closely with throughout the year. This has been an annual tradition for many years, and one that means a great deal to us.

The clergy play such an important role in the lives of the families in our care and in the broader community—offering guidance, comfort, and spiritual support, especially during moments of loss and reflection. During the Christmas season in particular, their presence and leadership are a source of strength and hope for so many.

We were honoured to personally deliver Christmas gifts to a number of clergy connected to each of our locations as a simple way of saying thank you for all they do, not only for our families, but for the communities they serve every day.

📸 Included are a few photos from our visits as we shared some holiday cheer and gratitude along the way.

Act #79 of Our 100 Acts of Kindness – Supporting Moorelands Kids 🎄❤️

For many years now, our team has come together each holiday season to support Moorelands Kids, helping provide a brighter Christmas for an underprivileged family and their children.

Through the generosity of our employees, we collect donations internally and use those funds to thoughtfully purchase gifts that are then delivered to Moorelands. From there, the gifts are shared with a deserving family—helping ensure that the holiday season includes moments of joy, excitement, and care.

This annual tradition is one that means a great deal to us. It’s a reflection of the kindness, compassion, and generosity that our team brings not only to the families we serve professionally, but also to the wider community we are proud to be part of.

We’re incredibly grateful to our staff for continuing this tradition year after year, and to Moorelands Kids for the important work they do supporting children and families in our city.

📸 Included are a few photos of the gifts collected, along with some of our team members dropping them off to Moorelands.

Act #78 of Our 100 Acts of Kindness – Candlelight Service of Remembrance at St. Demetrius the Great Martyr 🕯️

On Thursday, December 4th, we held our second Candlelight Service of Remembrance of the season — a meaningful opportunity for families and community members to honour those they continue to hold in their hearts, especially as we enter the holiday season.

This service took place at St. Demetrius the Great Martyr Parish, where the liturgy offered a quiet and prayerful space for reflection, comfort, and remembrance.

Our Cardinal team was honoured to welcome those in attendance, provide candles and commemorative ornaments, and offer support simply by being present with the families we’ve had the privilege to serve. After the service, we gathered for refreshments and conversation, creating a gentle moment of connection at the end of a reflective evening.

This annual tradition remains one of the most meaningful ways we come together as a community — united in remembrance, compassion, and hope.

📸 Below are a few photos from the evening capturing its warmth and peaceful spirit.

Act #77 of Our 100 Acts of Kindness – Make A Will Month Seminar 📝❤️

Last Tuesday, November 26th, we were proud to host our Make A Will Month Seminar at the BMO Education Centre inside Toronto Western Hospital. This free, two-hour community event brought together attendees eager to learn, plan ahead, and feel more secure about some of life’s most important decisions.

Throughout the evening, our six expert presenters shared valuable guidance on topics including:
• The importance of having a will
• Estate and tax planning
• Planning for health and personal care
• Body and organ donation
• Awake Soil and environmentally thoughtful options for ashes
• Funeral pre-planning and preparing for the future

The seminar was a tremendous success — warm, informative, and deeply appreciated by everyone who attended. We know that conversations about wills, end-of-life choices, and planning ahead can feel overwhelming or even a little frightening, which is why we believe so strongly in offering accessible, supportive education to help people navigate these decisions with clarity and confidence.

A heartfelt thank-you goes to the six incredible experts who generously shared their knowledge, as well as to Cindy Ciampa and our entire pre-planning team, whose thoughtful preparation and hard work made the evening run so smoothly.

📸 Below are a few photos from the event, featuring our presenters, attendees, and the Cardinal team who helped make the night both meaningful and memorable.

Act #76 of Our 100 Acts of Kindness – Supporting Samaritan’s Purse & Operation Christmas Child 🎁❤️🌍

For many years, we’ve been honoured to serve as a drop-off centre for Samaritan's Purse Canada and their incredible initiative, Operation Christmas Child — a program that sends lovingly packed shoeboxes to children in need around the world.

This year, thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our community, we collected 1,270 shoeboxes at our Annette Street location. Each box was packed with care, filled with gifts and essentials, and prepared with the hope of bringing joy to a child who may otherwise go without this Christmas.

Once the boxes were gathered, our team — with a VERY full van courtesy of Max — delivered them to Samaritan’s Purse so they can begin their journey across the globe.

But our involvement didn’t stop there. Two of our wonderful team members — Aaron and Jessica (who are also married!) — volunteered their time this past weekend at the Operation Christmas Child sorting centre, along with their daughter D’Arcy. Together, they helped inspect and prepare thousands of boxes to ensure each one is ready to be delivered safely and joyfully to its destination before Christmas.

For us, this act of kindness is especially meaningful because we’ve seen the impact firsthand. A few years ago, Jessica travelled with Samaritan’s Purse to Costa Rica, personally delivering shoeboxes to children and witnessing the happiness and hope these small gifts can bring. We’ve included a few of her photos from that mission, which help show the real, human impact behind every single box donated.

Samaritan’s Purse continues to touch millions of lives each year, offering not just gifts, but joy, dignity, and love to children living in some of the world’s most vulnerable conditions. We are grateful to play even a small role in supporting their mission — and deeply proud of our team and community for their continued kindness and generosity.

📸 Below are photos of:
• Hundreds of shoeboxes dropped off at our Annette location
• Max delivering a VERY full van
• Aaron, Jessica, and D’Arcy volunteering at the sorting centre
• Jessica’s meaningful trip to Costa Rica with Operation Christmas Child

Thank you to everyone who contributed — your kindness will brighten Christmas for children around the world.
