Centennial Infant and Child Centre Foundation Centennial Infant and Child Centre strengthens families and their young children with special needs

Centennial focuses on the individual needs of each child and family through early intervention at home, in our integrated preschool program, and through participation in community programs. Centennial values and builds on the unique abilities and strengths of children with special needs, and encourages all of them to develop the confidence and skills to find their place in the world.

When the weather keeps you indoors, it doesn't mean you have to put a pause on playtime! 🌧️ We're all about

Building Futures, and these three easy indoor activities are a great way to help your child develop coordination and motor skills, no matter the weather.

Here's how to turn a rainy day into an adventure:

1) Texture Path
Layer rugs, towels, and blankets to create a sensory path. Encourage your child to walk on them barefoot to explore different textures. This simple activity strengthens families by engaging a child's senses and building body awareness in a playful way.

2) Cushion Mountain
Stack couch cushions to create a soft, safe "mountain." Let your little one climb and jump on them to practice balance, coordination, and building confidence. It’s a great way to let them burn off energy!

3) Balloon 'Bubbles'
Hang balloons from the ceiling and have your child hit them. This fun game helps improve hand-eye coordination and visual tracking without the worry of anything breaking.

We're committed to helping children thrive, and we believe that every day is a learning opportunity.

🙌 We are honoured to announce that our Hospital-to-Home (H2H) program has received the highest possible rating, “Very Extensive,” from the Impact Genome Registry™ for the second consecutive year. This achievement places us in the top 1% of verified programs globally. 👌

H2H transforms traditional in-home Early Intervention models by starting support earlier right in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Our Early Childhood Interventionists provide expert guidance to parents while their baby is still in the hospital.

With generous support from the Aubrey & Marla Dan Foundation and the Ontario Trillium Foundation, we are expanding our program from Sunnybrook to St. Michael’s Hospital.

By adapting H2H to this new setting, we complement medical care with community wraparound support, ensuring families have the tools they need for their child’s best possible start in life.

📚✏️ Welcome back to school, CICC community!
As a new school year begins, we’re excited to continue walking alongside children with disabilities, their families, and educators.

At CICC, we believe every child’s journey deserves encouragement, resources, and opportunities to shine. Together, let’s build classrooms and communities where inclusion is at the heart of learning.

👩‍👩‍👦 On this Labour Day, we recognize not only the workforce that drives Canada forward, but also the parents and caregivers of children with disabilities.

Your days are filled with tireless, unseen work, advocating, supporting, nurturing, and ensuring your child thrives. This labour, though often invisible, is invaluable.

💙 Today, we celebrate you, the caregivers whose dedication builds stronger families and more inclusive communities.

Mornings can feel like a whirlwind, but with a few sensory-friendly strategies, you can bring more calm, confidence, and connection to your back-to-school routine:

✅ Prep clothes, lunch, and backpacks the night before
✅ Use visual timers and cues to ease transitions
✅ Add short sensory breaks (stretching, quiet time, or fidget play)
✅ Celebrate small wins—because every step counts 💪

Let’s make mornings smoother, one step at a time. 💛

👣 Steps Together. Staying Connected This Summer

When summer arrives, daily routines naturally shift. Without the usual school or centre schedule, the season can feel different, sometimes a little quieter, sometimes more open.

Research shows that connecting with other parents can make this time feel lighter and more supported. Parent-to-parent connections offer understanding, shared experiences, and practical tips that make navigating summer more manageable.

How to build your summer circle:
☕ Meet another parent for coffee
💬 Share a quick message or resource
🌳 Arrange a park playdate
📚 Exchange activity ideas that have worked for you

It doesn’t need to be formal, just small acts of connection that make a big difference.

Let’s celebrate the ways families support each other, all year long.

Powering Potential Campaign

The most important campaign the Foundation has ever undertaken for the Centre. $10 MILLION is needed to purchase, build or renovate, and furnish a new larger and more accessible site for the Preschool and other programs. Montgomery Sisam Needs Assessment recommended that Centennial requires between 16-000 to 20-000 square feet of physical space to adequately accommodate it's programs. That is more than double the space that we currently occupy. Your contribution to the campaign can help make our dream a reality. To learn more about making a Powering Potential Campaign Pledge or to discuss recognition options for pledges of $75,000+ please contact Debra Bond-Gorr, CFRE.
