Recently one of our amazing midwives, Shâdé, celebrated 15 year WEMaversary! 🥳
What a beautiful force of a midwife that we get to work with and learn from. Her vision in providing equitable and accessible care is strong and forever inspiring.

Happy Summer 🌞
❗️ heat warning in effect ❗️

Tips on staying cool:
- stay well hydrated (2-4L) and elevate your feet
-utilize sunscreen
-avoid sun over-exposure and strenuous activity - if your home is hot, consider staying with family/friends that may have a cooler environment
- look into cooling centres near you: libraries, pools, splash pads
-wear lighter clothing

Be safe and page your midwife if you’re not feeling well.

Welcome our newest addition to our team, midwife Birdie Solokha (they/them)

Говорю по Русски

My name is Birdie Solokha. I have immigrated with my family from Siberia as a teen and hold both Russian and Ukrainian roots. I have completed my Bachelor of Health Science in Midwifery from Toronto Metropolitan University and my Bachelor of Science in Nursing at York University.

Prior to midwifery, I have been working at the Hospital for Sick Children since 2018 as a paediatric Registered Nurse, where I’ve gained a lot of experience in providing safe, empathetic care within more emergent environments.

As a midwife, my passion lies in offering inclusive, family-centred care to folks who come from a variety of diverse backgrounds. I value care that utilizes a reproductive justice lens, encompasses holistic care to growing families as well as those that may experience loss.
As a q***r provider I enjoy working with LGBTQIA+ groups and prioritize creating a safe space for obstetric and postpartum/ neonatal care. I can offer our midwifery services fluently in Russian to folks who speak it as well as prefer it.

When not working, I adore spending my time outdoors in nature, gardening, adventuring, bird-watching, cuddling with my 3 goofy cats and building a joyful life with my partner and our dearest folks.

I look forward to working with you along the West End Midwives team and to serving you and your family.

See you soon and
До скорой встречи!

🤎Midwife Shâdé has a new initiative. There was a desire and need to create something that focused on African, Black and Caribbean reproductive health.

🤎Black Reproductive Empowerment and Transparent Health Equity (BREATHE) Midwives was created to address these concerns by supporting the African, Black and Caribbean community who are impacted negatively from the social determinate of health.

🤎BREATHE Midwives will focus on the spectrum of health sexual, reproductive, and obstetrical issues that usually are dismissed, ignored and/or minimized in the Black population leading to poor birthing and infant outcomes.

🤎WALK IN CLINIC: We offer various sexual health, reproductive, pregnancy, postpartum and infant services.

🤎COMMUNITY HOME VISITOR PROGRAM: If you are pregnant, or just had a baby, or need some feeding support, a Registered Midwife may be able to see you at home. Sign up and we will contact you to arrange a visit if you qualify.
