Your skin has a secret weapon: its pH. And when it’s in balance, your barrier stays strong, hydrated, and glow-ready. But when it’s off? irritation, breakouts, and sensitivity
Your skin’s natural pH sits between 4.5 and 5.5 which is slightly acidic. This acidity forms the acid mantle, a protective layer that keeps moisture in and bacteria out. But here’s the catch: many skincare products, especially those with active ingredients like AHAs, BHAs, and vitamin C, are formulated at lower pH levels to boost effectiveness.
That’s not a bad thing...but stacking too many acidic products (example : low-pH cleanser + serum + moisturizer) can overwhelm your skin and compromise its barrier. You may see : Redness, dryness, and a whole lot of frustration.
Balance is key. Pair your actives with calming, pH-balanced products. Look for cleansers around pH 5.5, moisturizers that support barrier health, and don’t forget to give your skin time to adjust.
Skincare isn’t just about ingredients. It’s about how they interact. Respect your skin’s chemistry, and it’ll reward you with resilience and radiance.
