Take your pet or dog to work today!

We know our community has many pet lovers among its members, and depending on work conditions, may not always get to spend as much time with them as they would like. Jason brought in Zen, his family dog to our headquarters in Toronto!

Zen the mascot for Simeon got to explore the office, play with the marketing lead and then popped out for the occasional doggy break. We would love to see the animals that make your life easier and enjoyable, regardless of whether it's a pet or service animal :)

Simeon | Supportive Hearing Systems wishes to acknowledge the lasting impact of Dr. Jack Katz, the legendary Audiologist who passed away on July 11th.

Founder of the Buffalo Model that led to a better understanding of Auditory Processing Deficit, Dr. Jack’s research unearthed four distinct domains for APD, allowing for improved treatment. If anyone is interested, the four domains include: decoding, tolerance-fading memory, organization and integration.

Simeon celebrates his work, recognizes his contributions to the profession and acknowledges the lasting impact his work has had on possibly millions of APD patients, both adult and pediatric. Dr. Katz will be missed.

Happy Monday! We should have announced this earlier, but the cat's out of the bag! Simeon Sprek Soundfield system can have an unlimited number of receivers paired to a transmitter. What a neat way to assist students searching for useful classroom audio.

06/25/2025

Happy Wednesday to our Simeon team. We have been getting a couple of questions in regards to the maximum number of speakers that can be paired to one transmitter on the same channel. If you saw the graphic, you may already know the answer is.... UNLIMITED. An unlimited number of Simeon Audita DR.1 Soundfield System speakers can be paired to one 5.1T pendant transmitter or one 5.1M Pass-around mic.

For many parts of the world, June is a time for graduation, for summer exclusive events, vacations and more.
June each year is observed as DeafBlind Awareness Month in Canada. Unfortunately, it does not have the same prominence as bigger holidays celebrated annually by Canadians.

We desire to change that by including our community in the discussion and observation of DeafBlind Awareness Month.

“Deafblind Awareness Month is designed to help Canadians develop an understanding of, and a comfort with, the people in their communities who are Deafblind. Each June, people who are Deafblind, service providers, and supporters come together to ‘Make a Wave from Coast to Coast’, with a passion to make a difference and raise awareness.” – DeafBlindServices.ca

Supportive Hearing Systems prides itself on its longstanding relationship with the deaf and hard of hearing community, so much so that they’re thrilled to field questions from members around the globe. Our community has come to be familiar with our Simeon line of products and partner items that are often spotted in educational environments as the preferred choice of assistive listening devices. Our most successful soundfield system is the Simeon Audita, which has transcended from educational environments to assistive living environments. Recently, this month, our team assisted a senior member in Quebec who was a long-standing user of a Contego FM system and needed their receiver to be serviced. She mentioned how frustrating it was not to be able to watch daily television shows or movies, an activity those without hearing health issues often take for granted. Our team immediately took action and repaired her device. Contego FM systems have long since been discontinued, but the customer service Supportive Hearing Systems prides itself on remains. Our community continues to turn to us for support, and we are determined to provide it promptly.

Now, you’re probably wondering why we only mentioned how we support the D/HH community, and wanted to mention Supportive Hearing systems is an official reseller of BenQ interactive boards, which are a stellar tool for individuals with low vision. Students who have been diagnosed with low vision have found relief in accessing classroom material displayed on BenQ boards via their very own Chromebook. They can keep up with their classmates without missing a beat.

Before we wrap up the latest blog installment, we wanted to discuss money, and we know that can be anxiety-inducing for many alike.
Canadians come from all types of economic backgrounds, and we are pleased to announce that Canada has opened the application for the Canada Disability Benefit, which will begin to accept applications as of Friday, June 20, 2025.

June brings a major boost in energy for Canadians in all 4 corners of the nation. To fight the Monday blues, the Simeon team will be sharing a teaser of an article curated by Asign discussing ways to create inclusive spaces for deaf Canadians. Canada has such a rich culture, and deaf Canadians are a huge part of that.

"Language and culture are inseparable. The Deaf community is comprised of culturally Deaf people who use sign language." - ( Toronto Star, Asign 2022 )

Asign is a translation service based in the nation's capital, Ottawa, with a specialization in Sign Language Interpreting.

Our final Easter egg for the month of April will be centered around the Denmark-based hearing company, ReSound.

ReSound, originally named Danavox was first launched in 1943 by Gerd Rosenstand, and has immensely grown to huge levels in the present 2025. Simeon will be using this time to highlight ReSound for being the first hearing aid manufacturer to design hearing aids that are Auracast-enabled. If you’re unfamiliar with Auracast, it is a Bluetooth technology that allows devices to broadcast to countless hearing devices with zero need to pair independently. ReSound projects 3 billion devices and 2.5 million places will support Auracast in the future.

Nexia hearing aid by ReSound has received 6 awards, with some awarded in the current year of 2025 for the hearing health issues it has solved for users outfitted with the aid. Resound Nexia includes an array of styles, colours, and customization to suit the needs of many around the world.

Are you or someone in your community currently interested in swapping out their hearing aids?

March 4th, 2025, is International Women's Day!

On this day, Supportive Hearing Systems would like to highlight Dr. Ingeborg Hochmair. You might be asking why, and that’s expected. The answer to your "why" is that Dr. Hochmair collaborated with her husband, Erwin Hochmair, to create the cochlear implant. She is currently the CEO and CTO of the hearing implant company MED-EL.

"For Ingeborg Hochmair, seeing a patient benefit from technology for which she and her husband, Erwin, can claim credit is a rewarding experience. In the 1970s, the Hochmairs – known on the campus of the Vienna University of Technology as the 'Electronic Couple' – helped create the first microelectronic multi-channel cochlear implant." (The Guardian)

A cochlear implant is a device that can be used by individuals who have severe hearing loss and cannot hear as well with hearing aids. The cochlear implant sends sounds past the damaged ear directly to the hearing nerve, called the cochlear nerve. As of December 2019, approximately 736,900 registered cochlear implants have been logged worldwide. (NIDCD.NIH.GOV)

Sunday, February 9th, marked the 59th NFL Super Bowl. Fans of American football (not to be confused with football from Europe) come in all shapes, sizes, ages, and have different requirements to partake in the fun of watching.

One particular barrier fans faced in previous years was related to hearing issues and how to access games, either from home or in person, including at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, NV.

The NFL has made adjustments to create an inclusive experience for fans of the sport by:

-Ensuring that all televised broadcasts offer closed captioning
-Providing captioning on video boards, allowing attendees with hearing loss to follow along
-Including sign language interpreters for various events, including the 55th Super Bowl in 2021
-Offering assistive listening devices (ALDs) at many NFL stadiums for fans with hearing loss
-Ensuring online video content includes captions, making it easier to access
-Collaborating with various disability advocacy groups, including the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.

Have you noticed any hearing accessibility improvements at your last sporting event?

We're ready to share a mid-week read for curious minds! We have provided a link to a study 'The FM Advantage in the Real Classroom' developed by Traci Schmidtke Flynn, Mark C. Flynn and Melanie Gregory.

The study explores the benefits of personal FM (frequency modulation) systems in enhancing learning for students aged 5 to 15 with sensorineural hearing loss. Participants used FM systems alongside their hearing aids for three months both at school and home. To find out the results of the study, please click the link below.
