Apologies for the ableism in the word “sane”, I appreciate the rest of the sentiment here.

“I don’t want wellness practises that teach me to be at peace with an inequitable world. I need practises that help me to stay sane while doing my part to fight against it. If it makes you compliant to injustice, it’s not healing — it’s sedation.”

“How do we grieve at the same time as we adapt?” asks author Robyn Maynard.

📣 After years of writing through applied practice, I am publishing my book, Taking the State Out of the Body: A Guide to Embodied Resistance to Zionism. It has been excruciating to write through these times of loss, isolation, rage, and agony. My hope is that this book will be a contribution to our movements as well as our collective healing. The official announcement is forthcoming, but I wanted to share this with my loved ones and extended community first. The full book description is below. Check out the kickstarter to pre-orders from

Taking the State Out of the Body is a guidebook in deconstructing nationalism through trauma informed praxis. Embedded in the political theory and practice of Jewish anti-Zionism, readers from all backgrounds are invited to build an embodied sense of safety that has the power to make militarized borders, policing, and nation states obsolete. We need the resources offered in this book; from understanding geopolitical impacts of intergenerational trauma, to self-regulation in conflict, to cultivating long-haul relationships, to building solidarity across our movements.

The framework for Taking the State Out of the Body is situated in a lineage of politicized healers including many anti-fascist Ashkenazi Jewish practitioners in 1930s Europe. Today, as the terms “somatics” and “trauma” have been mainstreamed, this book is a timely offer to move from individual awareness to collective action. Weaving anti-imperialist orientations to historical events with embodiment theory, each chapter opens with a connection to a plant or body part and closes with a guide to practices that fuel resistance and resilience. At a time where colonial imperialism in the U.S. and Palestine are rearing their heads and right wing authoritarianism is on the rise globally, this book will equip you with the tools you need to move from rugged individualist models of self--help/preservation to liberatory frameworks of collective care and joint struggle.

I’m Hanging On

By a thread. And so are you
and him and her and them.
But what if we tied our threads together. What if we stitch some thing strong enough to withstand the weight of it all. Of us all. Big enough to ensure there’s always a place to hang onto even when parts of the fabric are threadbare. I’m hanging on by a thread. But I’m trying to learn how to weave.

One of the best unintended side effects of acupuncture is connecting us to our own bodies, which often get neglected or forgotten in our daily stress. Somatic practices also help to do this and can be immensely powerful. Check out this easy one to fit into your routine!

This powerful somatic practice stimulates the thymus gland. It plays an important role in:

- our immune system
- maturation of T Cells (this process protects from autoimmune diseases)
- hormonal regulation

As we age, the thymus tends to shrink as does our immune response. Thymus thumping is a great way to keep stimulating the gland.

Besides obvious biological benefits, somatic practices like this one reconnect us with our body. When we focus our attention on how our body is feeling, we create a stronger mind-body connection that promotes healing at a deep level.

If you’re interested in learning more somatic practices, consider working 1:1 with a somatic therapist or practitioner. Browse our Somatic Practitioner & Therapist Directory to find the one that will support you in your healing journey. Link in bio.
