A species of jasmine native to tropical Asia, Sampaguita was declared as the national flower of the Philippines by Governor-general Frank Murphy in February of 1934. Traded and cultivated for thousands of years, the flower is globally known as Jasmine, Its White flower is believed to symbolize purity, fidelity and hope.
Sampaguita, a Spanish term, comes from the Pilipino words "sumpa kita," which means "I promise you." It is a pledge of mutual love.
The Sampaguita grows on vining shrubs and holds a sweet floral fragrance that one would remember year after year.
It’s a beautifully scented type of jasmine that grows across the Philippine islands spreading its fragrance far and wide.
Since the 17th century, Sampaguita was grown in Filipino royal gardens and was frequently used in religious ceremonies. For example, Sampaguita filled candles and incense are used to purify buildings and bar any type of evil from entering.
The Jasminum Sambac grows from 1.6 to 9.8ft (0.5 to 3m) tall. It doesn’t take up much space. It has really shiny and glossy pigmented leaves. You can either have it as an indoor plant or an outdoor plant.
