Growing up, the harsh words of bullies coupled with a constant “dieting” society and the need to “look” a certain way really shifted how I felt about myself and how I looked. In high school I developed an eating disorder – something I felt I could finally control. And though not even about food (the eating disorder – in most cases), this was the act of doing something (I suffered silently with Bulimia Nervosa) when feelings and emotions brought me to a point and situation where I felt out of touch with myself – nervous and anxious, or out of control – and resulted in my binging and purging activities. Though it is something I am not proud of, I have realized over the years that my going through this has helped in shaping and shifting me into the person I am today and more so, share my story with others and help them get to a point where they are absolutely in love with who they are – their value and worth in this world.

Are you a fan of these little nuggets? Packed with heart healthy nutrients, a blast of energy and a little bit of sweetness, chestnuts bring so many food connection memories to me. Whether I was in charge of Slicing an X down the back before roasting, or racing someone to peel the most, these are a Christmas- and winter-time staple, or, if you’re just roaming the streets in Italy!
They are a great addition to a salad or as a snack paired with a piece of cheese!

…to walk outside every day this week….and I am making the point to do that!

Promises to yourself are the most important ones. I think anyways.

But they’re not promises like ‘I am not going to eat sugar,’ OR ‘I am not going to eat any gluten,’ OR ‘I’m going to starve all day because I have a party tonight’……

Think of healthy lifestyle promises as things you are going to ADD to enhance your life

📝 I promise to wake 20 minutes earlier

📝 I promise to walk every day

📝 I promise to eat slowly

📝 I promise to eat three veggies today

When you focus on ‘restrictive-type’ promises you are less likely to be successful in these because, well, research shows the more you tell yourself you CAN’T or SHOULDN’T have something, the more you will want it. The more the thoughts will consume you. Unless you have a known allergy and it can actually be poison for your body to handle, foods should not be forbidden….

Whereas when you start making small positive changes and additions to your diet to include positive habits, the more your body will then crave these things and want them every day!

Are grapefruit on regular rotation for you and your family? They are not in mine and I was in heaven when I enjoyed this beauty a few weeks ago! So sweet with a little bit of tang and a great source of Vitamin C to help keep our immunity up this time of year!

‘Tis the season! Although we’ve been seeing Christmas decorations in stores since August, with the first snowfall in the GTA happening this past weekend….i think it’s safe to say the season is upon us!
Many decorate their homes earlier and earlier because research has shown just seeing the beauty in decorations, your kid’s crafts from years prior, or the smells of Christmas can boost your spirits and mood!
So I say go for it…..if it means mental wellness as well, we can always do what’s best for us!

They’re still in season! You can grab local beets now and although a little tedious to prepare (they take a longer time to cook), beets are packed with nutrition! Rich in antioxidants, protecting against inflammation, beets also have iron, fibre and a healthy serving of folate which is vital during pregnancy.


Whether you roast them, boil them, add them to smoothies, salads or stews, beets, and their greens, can serve a HUGE purpose in your diet! When’s the last time you had some beets?
