Growing up, the harsh words of bullies coupled with a constant “dieting” society and the need to “look” a certain way really shifted how I felt about myself and how I looked. In high school I developed an eating disorder – something I felt I could finally control. And though not even about food (the eating disorder – in most cases), this was the act of doing something (I suffered silently with Bul

imia Nervosa) when feelings and emotions brought me to a point and situation where I felt out of touch with myself – nervous and anxious, or out of control – and resulted in my binging and purging activities. Though it is something I am not proud of, I have realized over the years that my going through this has helped in shaping and shifting me into the person I am today and more so, share my story with others and help them get to a point where they are absolutely in love with who they are – their value and worth in this world.

Plant based. Vegetarian. Vegan. All these different food styles are thrown in our faces each day. Should we eat a plate-based diet? Should I remove meat? How do I go about making the changes?
Research has shown that most people DON’T eat enough plants. Filled with nutrient rich vitamins and minerals and a wack-load of FIBRE, they are important to include throughout your week.
We include all foods in our family - meat, fish, beans, plants, and more. But I aim to include at least 3-4 plant based meals in my week, whether it’s lunch or dinner, AND when developing my camp curriculum, we always include a vegan and vegetarian dish (in addition to our meats), to teach balance and variety!
This lunch still gave my 22g of protein believe it or not and 13g of fibre! And that’s a win!
Silver Hills toast with hummus, garden tomatoes, olive oil and h**p seeds + Greek yogurt based tzaziki dip and veggies!

I wouldn’t classify myself as a ‘Picky/Selective Eating Expert’, but I’ve had my fair share of education and exposure with clients, in addition to hands on preparation and serving lunches and snacks to thousands of kids over my years!
But, as with anything more personal, last night’s comment from my Middle Lady brought so much life to my heart!

Here’s a thought…..cottage cheese has been around for a looooooooong time. And is just as good, healthy, and nutritious slapped onto toast or eaten from a bowl as it may be in the thousands of recipes that have unfolded over the last two years…..so if you have time to make those recipes——great! But if all you’ve got is the sense (and time) to still enjoy it as many have for decades and decades ——SIMPLY—then keep it that way and do just that!

Sssshhhhh 🤫 Hear that? That’s your intuition and your heart whispers sending you soft messages about what it needs 🙏
I completely understand how loud the world is (and how loud your children may be at times. I’ve got 3!). But when you have those moments to sit in solitude and quiet MAN can you hear a lot of things your body needs!
I Honoured those whispers by putting together this oh so simple lunch today, and took it outdoors where the sun is shining and Vitamin D is getting into my body. Your intuition will grow on you, but with ‘time’ and ‘patience’ you will hear more and more of what your body needs for nourishment and health.
AND no, I was not always like this. I used to have 3 double double coffees a day and eat everything sweetened with aspartame and sugar…..but over the years of putting in the work and educating myself I tuned in deeper to what I needed. When that little 💡 goes off for my clients through time and support, it makes me so happy 💞
Sit with yourself for 3 minutes. Close your eyes and breathe. Then come back here and tell me what your heart whispers to you 🙏

The Morning Haul……most people are surprised when I tell them I have a shake every morning for breakfast and have been consistent for over 15 years! Here’s why:

🏋🏻‍♀️ I was that energetic 6AM fitness instructor for 15 years, and the days I didn’t teach a class I went to a class or did my own workout. So, liquid nutrition post-workout to replenish my muscles and get me set for the next day’s workout was necessary!

💪🏼 I spent the first 10 years of my nutritionist and dietetic career (and still work with this population), supporting athletes and physically active individuals understanding what their bodies needed at different times of their days and weeks. I LOVE sports nutrition and helping people understand how they can become stronger and fitter through proper nutrition brings me so much joy.

🥤 Supplementation. My shakes help me get my extra protein, creatine, fibre, Omega-3 and vitamin D in one shot. The things my body needs for health and supporting my body to continue to be physically active. *note* if using an omega-3 oil supplement, add it to your shake AFTER you mix it as the centrifuging will break down the good fats

👩🏻 One thing I learned EARLY in my career, through counselling new moms, was how many of them took care of their kids before themselves…… I was able to support moms to take control of their health and make their nutrition as much of a priority as their kids’. So when it was time for me to become a mom, having this shake made before I tended to my kids (lunches or breakfasts), has been key 💪🏼. They still get fed….don’t worry about that 🥰

Almost 8 years ago I developed this sugar free banana muffin recipe to have something to give my babies during their first year of life…..I still make the recipe to this day, but add in some chocolate chips…..because JOY!
Have some ripe bananas on hand? Grab the recipe and get baking today! Add in some fresh or frozen blueberries, walnuts, or pumpkin seeds and coconut like I sometimes do!
