We all have moments when our breath takes on a life of its own. Whether you're gasping for air while coughing or short-breathing in an intense work meeting, your breathing patterns can affect how comfortable and balanced everything feels down there!

If you're living with pelvic organ prolapse, breathing that forces air out of your body forcefully puts added pressure on your core. If your pelvic muscles are too tight or too weak, a good place to start engaging the right muscles is to focus on breathing.

At InvigoPhysio, working on the optimal breathing pattern is the first step we take to help you rebalance your pelvic floor.

What IS pelvic organ prolapse? Sounds scary - and it can be! Good news is that it’s treatable with pelvic physiotherapy.

Prolapse, by definition, means ‘to fall’ and in the case of pelvic prolapse, it refers to a dropping or ‘descending’ of the pelvic organs. Your pelvic floor organs include:
👉Your bladder
👉Your uterus
👉Your small bowel
When one or more of these organs fall or descend, it is called prolapse when they fall into or outside of your va**nal canal or a**s area. There are different names for different kinds of prolapse, such as:
👉cystocele - the most common kind of prolapse
👉va**nal vault prolapse
👉uterine prolapse
and more.

But don’t let these long names for prolapse scare you. Pelvic organ prolapse is treatable (depending on the severity) and there IS relief for your symptoms. Book your appointment now: https://wsbmassage.janeapp.com/ #/staff_member/13

😌 The first two weeks after your should be devoted to *resting* and recovery. You’ve just undergone *major* surgery. Don’t overdo it! Then, slowly, you can start with gentle movements like heel slides and mini bridges or walking short distances.

Birth is a unique experience for everyone - and so is recovery. However, you will likely have edema (swelling) around your scar after a cesarean section birth. Simple exercises such as walking can promote blood circulation and decrease swelling!

That’s right - you can walk it out! But, you’ll likely need a little more help than just walking - which is why InvigoPhysio’s c-section scar release therapy also helps reduce swelling above the scar.

You can begin the treatment as early as 4-6 weeks after birth 🌱. Learn more: https://www.invigophysio.com/post-natal-health/c-section-scar-care-physiotherapy/

Stretching improves muscle function by reducing tension. 💪By promoting relaxation and lengthening of the muscles in the pelvic region, you also:
👉increase blood flow to the area and 👉decrease symptoms associated with pelvic floor dysfunction
Sounds pretty good, right?
These are 2 simple stretches that you can do daily to improve your pelvic floor health:
1️⃣Glutes release: you can use 2 tennis balls or lacrosse balls. Aim to roll your glutes out for 30 seconds each side. Feel free to move the balls to different areas of your bum to release all the tension.
2️⃣Back twist: stay in the twist for at least 2 full breaths, and increase the number of breaths as your body opens up.
👉Remember you should feel good when doing these exercises. If they don't feel right, try to modify your position or use props to assist you.

Whenever we experience pain, our bodies react by tensing the muscles where our pain is coming from. It’s common for pain to cause pelvic floor muscle tightening, which can cause tension from your tailbone, p***c bone, and up to your neck and toes.

Relaxing the pelvic floor can reduce these built-up tensions and calm the pain receptors. That’s where can help.

This simple exercise can reduce tension in your pelvic floor:

Do this exercise in any position during the day, while sitting, standing, or lying down.

Pro tip: try using visualization to help you!

Picture a place or situation that relaxes you-perhaps a beach scene or lying in a hammock.
Breathe in, allowing air to fully expand your rib cage and belly like a balloon, and visualize your pelvic floor dropping gently.
Breathe out, and allow the pelvic floor to stay soft.
Repeat for a total of 10 times. Use this breath when you experience or bladder urgency.

Pelvic and abdominal pain often leads to shallow chest breathing and chronic hyperventilation, which can affect emotional stress, heart rate, and cause other types of pain in the body. 😢

This simple breathing exercise can help get you back to your optimal breathing pattern:

1. Sit up straight.

2. As you breathe in, visualize the air slowly expands your rib cage and belly all around. Count to three for the inhalation to get all the air in your lungs, but not so much that it feels uncomfortable. 🍃

3. Pause for one second.

4. Slowly exhale through the pursed lips to let the air out from your belly and then your ribs.

Do 10 breaths like this, once a day or as often as able throughout the day. 😌

The pelvic floor and diaphragm share many fascial and muscular connections. Therefore, an optimal breathing pattern can improve your overall health.

There are many factors that impair breathing, such as stress, anxiety, posture, muscle tension and weakness. By getting evaluated properly, you can get back to your optimal breathing pattern. 🌱

That’s what can do to help you or your loved one on their journey with . 💛

The v***a is often neglected while the va**na gets all the spotlight.

It is often difficult for most people to tell them apart. 💡 Essentially, the v***a is on the outside while the va**na is on the inside.

The v***a plays a key role in s*xual function and protecting the va**nal opening from external irritations. It also expands to help deliver a baby! 👶

Here are 4 tips to keep your v***a healthy and happy:

👉Wear breathable underwear that fits well (so no tugging or chafing!)

👉Avoid over cleaning your v***a - use water and if you must, use cleansers with a pH between 5.3 and 7.0.🤽

👉Just like your skin, the v***a is susceptible to moisture loss. There will be times when the v***a needs a moisturizer - especially when you're breastfeeding, during menopause, or during frequent hair removal. 💧

👉And lastly, it's also important to get to know your v***a - take a look in the mirror and learn what it looks like. This way, you'll be able to tell if anything is wrong and get help if needed 💜
