WHO WE ARE

Footprints Therapy is a privately owned, multi-disciplinary practice that was founded over 20 years ago. We have evolved from a paediatric physical therapy clinic to one that is more holistic and offers care to both children and adults. We provide physical and occupational therapy and yoga for infants to young adults up to twenty one years of age. Our practitioners are highly trained in their designated fields and have a wealth of expertise. They are also committed to their own professional and continuing education to ensure they always have state of the art, advanced, knowledge and skills. Footprints philosophy encourages collaboration between therapy specialists to promote an optimal outcome for each client. OUR GOALS AND VISION

Our vision is to offer holistic health care. We tailor our intervention to the current needs of the client and refer within and outside of our clinic if necessary. At Footprints our goal is to maximize the ability and potential of each individual – from infants to seniors.

✨ Gentle osteopathic support for growing bodies ✨

This sweet baby presented with plagiocephaly (flattening of the head) and torticollis (neck tightness and rotation preference) — two conditions we often see in infants following birth or due to positional habits.

Through a series of gentle osteopathic treatments, we worked to:
🦴 Release tension patterns through the neck, shoulders, and cranial base
💫 Support balanced cranial motion and alignment
💆‍♀️ Encourage freer, more symmetrical movement
😴 Promote comfort for feeding, sleeping, and tummy time

Osteopathy in infancy focuses on restoring the body’s natural ability to self-correct — using light touch to balance the musculoskeletal, nervous, and circulatory systems.

Early osteopathic care can support optimal growth and development while helping babies feel more at ease in their bodies 💕

Our occupational therapist is using facial tapping—a gentle technique that helps the nervous system integrate retained primitive reflexes. 👶✨

Primitive reflexes are automatic movements that develop in utero and during infancy. They lay the foundation for motor control, balance, and emotional regulation. When these reflexes remain active beyond early childhood, they can impact posture, attention, coordination, and even sensory processing.

Through rhythmic and specific sensory input like tapping around the face and head, we can help the body complete these reflex patterns. This supports better organization of the nervous system and can lead to improvements in focus, motor planning, and self-regulation.

At Footprints Therapy, we use evidence-informed, hands-on approaches to help each child reach their full developmental potential. 🌿

Melina Marini grew up in British Columbia, where she completed her Bachelor of Science in Human Kinetics with a Minor in Psychology at the University of British Columbia Okanagan. She went on to complete her Master of Science in Physical Therapy (MScPT) at the University of Toronto.
Her passion for working with children began while volunteering at the Prenatal and Postnatal Care Unit at Kelowna General Hospital, where she supported families with daily care and provided post-natal education. During her clinical training, Melina gained valuable pediatric experience at Mount Sinai’s Neonatal Follow-Up Clinic and NICU, where she supported infants and children in neurological rehabilitation following NICU admission. These experiences emphasized the importance of early intervention and family-centered care, solidifying her commitment to pediatrics. In addition, Melina has worked as a personal support worker, providing individualized care to neurodiverse individuals and those with disabilities. This experience strengthened her passion for fostering inclusion, promoting independence, and empowering children and families to grow with confidence.
Outside of the clinic, Melina enjoys hiking, skiing, going to the gym, and spending time with family and friends!
Melina is excited to be joining the Footprints team and is passionate about collaborating closely with families to create meaningful strategies that support growth both in the clinic and at home. Melina will be working Fridays and Saturdays!

✨ What is EMDR therapy? ✨
At Footprints Therapy, our Psychotherapists in Toronto and Innisfil offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) — a powerful, evidence-based therapy that helps the brain process traumatic or distressing memories so they no longer feel overwhelming.

💡 EMDR works by using bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, or sound) to help the nervous system reprocess stored memories in a safe and supportive way.

It can help with:
🌱 Trauma & PTSD
🌱 Anxiety & panic
🌱 Grief & loss
🌱 Phobias
🌱 Stress & emotional regulation

At Footprints, our therapists provide EMDR in a gentle, integrative way — supporting both the mind and body in the healing process.

🌱 Gentle osteopathic care for growing bodies 🌱

In this session, we’re using osteopathic techniques to mobilize the baby’s spine. By releasing restrictions and supporting proper spinal movement, we help him:
✨ Engage his postural muscles
✨ Lift his chest and head more easily in tummy time
✨ Strengthen the foundation for rolling, sitting, and crawling
✨ Support overall nervous system and motor development

Osteopathy looks at the whole body — how structure affects function. By improving spinal mobility, we’re not only helping him succeed in tummy time, but also supporting balance, coordination, and future milestones. 💙

At Footprints Therapy, we use a gentle, hands-on osteopathic approach to help babies thrive through each stage of development.

Michael’s path to becoming a Psychotherapist was anything but simple, which is often the case when it comes to life; most things worth doing have their challenges! Struggling is often a natural outcome of anything difficult - Michael believes that we should not have to do it alone. His motivation was to be able to sit with people through their challenges, make meaningful connections with others, and empower them to find their own inner strength.

After achieving a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at York University and a Master of Education in Counselling Psychology at The University of Lethbridge, Michael strove to learn any method that would allow him to help people through their toughest experiences, memories, and beliefs. This list continues to grow, but currently includes Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Somatic Psychotherapy, Strength-Based Therapy, and Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Michael’s approach is of non-judgmental mindful collaboration, aiming to put you first at all times and slowing things down in an often fast-paced world. He is ready to help adolescents, adults, and older adults find their way forward, every step of the way. Michael will be joining our team on Thursdays! .

✨ Before & After ✨
First photo ➡️ After rhizotomy with laminectomy, scoliosis beginning because of spinal instability.
Second photo ➡️ After just one osteopathic treatment, you can already see improved alignment and balance.

A laminectomy — the removal of part of the vertebra to access the spinal cord — can sometimes leave the spine less stable. When combined with scar tissue from surgery, the body may begin to shift and compensate, leading to curves like scoliosis.

Osteopathy plays an important role in recovery by:
🔹 Releasing restrictions from scar tissue
🔹 Improving spinal and rib mobility
🔹 Supporting balance and alignment
🔹 Helping the nervous system adapt to changes after surgery

At Footprints Therapy, we work with the whole body after procedures like rhizotomy and laminectomy, creating space for better movement, posture, and long-term growth. 💙

✨ Before & After ✨
This young patient came to us with significant airway dysfunction due to enlarged tonsils and adenoids. He was struggling to breathe properly — and his posture told the full story.

👉 In the before image, his body is noticeably shifted to the left — a common compensation pattern in children with chronic mouth breathing or airway obstruction.
👉 In the after image, following gentle osteopathic treatment, you can see how his body is sitting more centered and aligned — a reflection of improved fascial balance, mobility, and access to breath.

🔍 Airway dysfunction doesn’t just affect breathing — it impacts posture, sleep, focus, and development. Osteopathy helps by releasing tension, improving structural balance, and supporting the body’s natural ability to breathe with ease.

👐 Gentle. Effective. Evidence-based.

📩 Reach out if your child struggles with breathing, sleep, or posture — osteopathy can help.
