This day, which rounds out Recovery Month, unites people across the globe by spreading hope and raising awareness. Thank you to Mayor Olivia Chow for proclaiming September 30th Recovery Day in the City of Toronto!

Today, on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour survivors, their families, and the children who never returned home.

At FAR, we acknowledge the ongoing impacts of residential schools and the importance of listening, learning, and working together toward healing and reconciliation.

What an incredible WOW Festival!

The WOW Festival is a high-energy day of action that brings to life what a fully integrated healthcare system can look like—one that gives equal priority to Mental, Physical, and Substance Use Health. This September, over 200 organizations and hundreds of attendees came together to connect with services that support every pathway to wellness.

Families for Addiction Recovery, a national organization providing no cost peer support for families with love ones with addiction and mental health challenges, has participated since the first of these annual events many years ago. This year Suzanne Grether, Deirdre Hendrick, and Doug Hunter, all Ottawa based volunteer peer supporters, were involved at our presentation table.

A huge thank you to all the amazing participants, organizers, and partners who came together to make this event such a success.

FAR - Families for Addiction Recovery

Families for Addiction Recovery is a national charity founded by parents of children who have struggled with addiction from their teens. Our goal is long term recovery for those with addiction and their families.

  • We offer parent-to-parent support for families struggling with addiction.

  • We are a voice for families to influence government policy.

  • We educate community groups, health care providers and law enforcement about addiction, health laws and drug policies.
