Tips for brushing with braces
• Rinse your mouth with water first to remove loose food particles from your brackets.
• Don't use whitening toothpaste or whitening mouthwash products. They will cause your teeth to be a different color when you have the braces taken off. If you accidentally use one of these dental products, rinse right away with water.
• Brushing and flossing is important to avoid tooth decay. Many patients use a floss threader or an interdental brush to remove plaque and food, but its worth considering a water flosser.
• Use of Electric Toothbrush is beneficial
• Use a water flosser before brushing (after brushing it washes away the benefits of your toothpaste).

1. DON’T UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF YOUR TOOTHBRUSH
The best way to clean Invisalign aligners and retainers is by brushing them with a soft-bristled toothbrush and rinsing with lukewarm water. Avoid toothpaste as it can scratch the plastic. You can also use dish soap, but never rinse with hot water—it can warp your aligners.

2. USE THE INVISALIGN CLEANING SYSTEM
Invisalign’s cleaning crystals are great for removing stains, but not essential. Alternatives like Polident retainer cleaner work well too.

3. DIY CLEANERS WITH WHITE VINEGAR
Mix 1 part distilled white vinegar with 3 parts lukewarm water. Soak your aligners for 15-30 minutes, then rinse. Hydrogen peroxide mixed with water also works as a DIY cleaner.

At Laird Orthodontics, we recommend an orthodontic evaluation by age 6! While treatment might not start right away, early exams help us spot any potential issues like misaligned teeth or jaw growth problems. Catching these early means a healthier, more confident smile later on! Our gentle and effective treatments ensure your child’s comfort and optimal results.

Treatment options for having crocked teeth
1. Traditional Braces
Traditional metal braces are a tried-and-true method for straightening teeth. They consist of metal brackets and wires that gently guide your teeth into the desired position over time.
2. Clear Braces
Clear ceramic braces are a more discreet alternative to traditional metal braces. They blend in with your natural tooth color, making them less noticeable.
3. Invisalign
Invisalign is a popular choice for those who prefer a virtually invisible treatment option. It consists of a series of clear, removable aligners that gradually move your teeth into the correct alignment. Invisalign aligners are comfortable, convenient, and can be easily removed for eating and oral hygiene.
4. Self-Ligating Braces
Fowler Orthodontics uses advanced self-ligating braces that offer several advantages over traditional braces. These braces have a built-in sliding mechanism that holds the wires, reducing friction and discomfort.
5. Lingual Braces
Lingual braces are placed on the backside of your teeth, making them entirely hidden from view. They are an excellent choice for those who want effective treatment without visible braces.
6. Retainers
After completing your orthodontic treatment, retainers are essential for maintaining your newly aligned smile. Fowler Orthodontics provides custom retainers to ensure your teeth remain in their corrected positions

: Brackets and wires might be damaged by certain foods. That's why there are some braces and food restrictions. It's crucial to stay away from really hard or sticky foods.
1. Potato chips: This food easily causes plaque to form on the braces.
2. Nuts: Hard nuts such as almonds, walnuts, and cashews can damage braces.
3. Caramel candies: This candy is excessively sticky and hard to bite.
4. Meat on the bones: Eating any meat from the bones should be avoided.
5. Hard crackers or cookies: Brackets and wires are at risk of being damaged.
6. Popcorn: Brackets and wires may be damaged by the hard kernels.
7. Bagels & pretzels: Your braces may be damaged by this hard, chewy snack.
8. Corn on the cob: The corn can instead be sliced off the cob.
9. Candy bars: Most candy bars are too hard and sticky.
10. Ice: Although ice can relieve pain, don't chew on ice.
In addition to avoiding certain types of foods, maintaining adequate hygiene is critical to preventing stains and cavities from forming around the braces. If food debris is not completely removed from the teeth and braces, tartar and plaque may build up, causing white spots on the teeth’ surfaces.
