Happy Easter to all! Part of my Easter tradition is to re-watch Jesus Christ Superstar…the original. This year, I’m at the Fox Theatre in the Beach for a singalong version. Fun way to commemorate the crucifixion!

Five years ago today…
Five years ago today, I entered the gleaming new surgical suite at Mount Sinai hospital to have a complete hysterectomy. The last moment I remember was hearing the anesthesiologist say “I’ll take good care of you”. As he predicted, the surgery went well. I’m deeply grateful for the care of everyone on my surgical team. And to my cousin Carolyn who took great care of me in the immediate aftermath.

A week later, I found out that I indeed had endometrial cancer. The surgeon said “it’s good we did the surgery when we did because you had cancer”. I was shocked but ultimately pleased with her honesty. Dr Allen and I have had regular meetings since then, to check for recurrence. But now, five years later, I have been declared cancer-free.

In March 2021, we were still in the midst of the pandemic. The journey through the medical system was a lonely one. Sitting alone in outpatient waiting rooms and in hospital was my norm. And then there were delays in surgical dates. I reluctantly learned to be patient as a patient.

I don’t talk about surviving cancer much. Maybe I feel reluctant to identify with cancer survival because I was diagnosed with a “good cancer” and didn’t need further treatment. Today, though, I feel free to share my cancer story as it comes to a conclusion.

Deep in the pandemic, I learned to trust my instincts. Something felt not right in my body, and I pursued a diagnosis despite the delays in the medical system at the time.

So, if you’re feeling that something is ‘off’ in your body, I encourage you to do the same. Trust your instinct. Get support as you can and seek a diagnosis.

Naturopathic medicine is not for everyone. My naturopathy is not for anyone looking for quick and easy answers. Not for people who only want their symptoms to go away. Not for folks who are deeply invested only in the supremacy of the conventional.

But, if you are interested in finding out why you’re not feeling well despite being told everything is normal, naturopathy may be the path to real, lasting answers. If you’re open to evidence-informed medicine mixed with a bit of ‘woo’, then a naturopath may be your health ally.

Come check us out, I believe naturopathy is on the leading edge of healing on all levels. Don’t you and your loved ones deserve that?

I came across this anti-trans diatribe while checking the CDC website. Apparently this is US government policy now. Unbelievable. Shocking, not shocking I guess

I highly recommend this slim novel about generations of women from Syria, Lebanon, Canada. The characters stayed with me long after I finished reading the book. I cannot wait to read what will create next.
