June is Pride month! Every year, the month of June commemorates and celebrates the LGBTQ+ community, their culture, and the struggles and barriers that members of the community have endured and continue to endure. Every year, we also see the ways that companies and brands capitalize on Pride month through campaigns, merch, and sandwiches (?).

As vaccination in the province is ramping up, a return to the office seems to be on the horizon. However, there are many mixed feelings about what this return might look like. In fact, a recent The Toronto Star article suggests that only 25 to 30 per cent of Toronto office workers will return to their desks in the first 60 days of reopening.

Remember when we told you we are a carbon-neutral agency? Well, we're proud to share that Turo recently announced it will offset 100% of its carbon emissions through a partnership with leading carbon offset developer, Bluesource.

This commitment will offset emissions based on an estimated total number of miles driven on Turo trips, as well as all emissions from its global office footprint. As the only carbon-neutral peer-to-peer car sharing marketplace, we're excited to see Turo pioneer this step in making the industry sustainable and further helping to fight climate change.

Reality TV shows can feel like real life, but for BIPOC viewers, it can be impossible to relate if you're not seeing yourself or someone who resembles you on screen. We've seen networks promising more inclusive casting practices, with CBS announcing its goal of having a minimum of 50 per cent BIPOC cast members starting this year for shows like Big Brother and Love Island.

Self-described as your classic Capricorn, Kate Nishida is a Senior Manager on the consumer team. No two days are the same in communications (IYKYK), but Kate finds the rush of anticipating what's next to be exciting and what "keeps her young".

Having lived in Thailand for a year, Kate has lots of stories to share, especially about her time staying at a silent retreat in Bali (!!). Despite her many travels, she agrees that the best part about working at Agnostic is "100% the team" (anyone else seeing a pattern here? ). Fun fact: Kate was a child star, so to speak, appearing on two YTV shows (including Ghost Trackers!)

Our Account Manager, Summer Martin, is energetic, eclectic and effervescent. She loves seeing a 30-minute brainstorm turn into an award-winning campaign and appreciates that no idea is too big or too small in this industry. She also doesn't mind that working in PR gave her the opportunity to meet her idol, Alanis Morrisette.

To Summer, working at Agnostic means working with the best communication professionals in the industry (which means a lot coming from her, she's lived around the world!). She's constantly inspired by the people on our team, despite only meeting most of us through a screen. When she's not trying to turn off the mute button on Zoom, you can find Summer leading our team tarot readings and sending us good vibes.

Last night’s Oscars were the most boring in the show’s history (source: Caroline Stelmach) and doesn’t bode well for the ratings freefall afflicting award shows, but there were some interesting takeaways to come out of the show beyond the gold-plated statues. From the event going totally maskless (except for commercial breaks?!) or the ads pushing post-pandemic experiences, it’s clear that brands are already thinking about life “after” the pandemic, and how to prolong – or rediscover – their relevance with consumers.

This week, our Account Manager Caroline Stelmach asks, is this a sign of a larger cultural relevance issue for awards shows? And how will brands need to rethink their engagement with these marquee events?

This , we're reflecting on what it means to be better thinkers, not just for our clients, but for our environment.

We are proud to be an entirely carbon-neutral agency. Being carbon neutral means that as an agency, we emit the same amount of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere that we offset by some other means, in our case, through annual audits and the purchasing of offsets sourced from the Nature Conservancy of Canada / Conservation de la nature Canada Darkwoods Forest Carbon Project initiative, a project with Verra Carbon Standard certification.

Meet Samantha Campana, a Senior Director on our corporate team and our newest hire! Working in the tech space, Sam loves learning about new innovations, technological advancements, and industry transformations. To her, it makes the work all the more interesting!

As a lifelong-student/action-oriented food lover, Sam once took a 6-month backpacking trip in Asia with her best friend. The trip taught her a lot about herself and a corner of the world very different from the one she grew up in. The next thing she's learning is how to be a dog parent! Every , we see new promises and commitments from brands around the world to do better by mother nature and take action against climate change. Despite these commitments, brands are often criticized for window dressing—putting in place programs that look good on paper but don’t actually make a meaningful impact to address the climate crisis.

As the climate crisis rages on, our Senior Account Executive, Sam Pinto asks: how can brands be held accountable as they take action against climate change? We think that if you're committing to making meaningful changes to protect our environment, there’s no better time to act than now.
