Have you noticed construction around Hart House? It’s all part of Building Our Future, a multi-phase renewal and revitalization project — the most significant transformation since Hart House first opened in 1919. Launched in Fall 2024, Phase 1 is well underway. This generational project, which may take over a decade to complete, will preserve the building’s heritage while enhancing its sustainability, accessibility and ability to serve students, alumni and the community for another century.

We’ve formed an advisory committee made up of student leaders, faculty, and staff from across all three campuses to guide the direction of the Building Renewal. We’ve also led consultations with groups and individuals across U of T to gather insights and feedback that will inform the vision.

Come to Hart House Information Services Desk and cast your idea to Build Our Future together. And if you spot any staff wearing a Hart House Building Renewal | Building Our Future button, don’t hesitate to stop and ask them about the project — we’re always happy to share our excitement!

Now is your chance to learn directly through dialogue with artists, curators and art institutions with our returning Art Cohort program.

Between September 2025 and March 2026, student participants will engage in a seminar-style exploration of contemporary art in Toronto through field trips, studio visits and discussions with those who shape the cultural landscape of the city.
