The course reflects a growing curiosity about Hip-Hop culture, its history and significance; a burgeoning interest in women in this field; as well as the success of the Hart House Hip-Hop Education Program.

Our next feature is Emily, a university student and staff member at Hart House.

Emily first discovered Hart House in high school through the A/V Tech Mentorship program and Youth Advisory Council, where she found a space to grow her confidence, connect with others and discover her voice.

Today, she remains an active part of the Hart House community as an Information Services Attendant, continuing the journey she started years ago.

Our next feature is Angel, an undergraduate student studying Visual Studies at The John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design

Angel describes Hart House as a space where she can learn, create and connect—attending and hosting events, working out and spending time with friends and colleagues. She curated the Talking Walls exhibition, United Goals: Empowering Climate Justice and Indigenous Ways of Knowing, in collaboration with Indigenous Climate Action, bringing together art, storytelling and community.

For Angel, Hart House is a place to feel supported, inspired and connected beyond the classroom.

You can empower students like Gaby. A fourth-year student double majoring in international development studies and arts management, she has experienced firsthand how meaningful Hart House’s spaces and community are to those who walk through its doors — whether performing on the iconic Norman Jewison stage or sharing a meal in the Arbor Room.

Hart House has supported her passion for theatre and helped her grow as an emerging Filipino artist. Now, as a Giving Day Ambassador, she’s helping celebrate the impact of those who support this vibrant community and historic building.

As co-lead of Hart House's Youth Access programming, Daniel has found rewarding work helping high school students build confidence and connections.

02/25/2026

Our next feature is Van Gonzales, a recent U of T alum.

Van first got involved as the Integrated Arts Education Intern, developing the Art Cohort program to introduce students to Toronto’s contemporary art spaces. He later facilitated the program as a work-study student and supported programming with the Art Museum and Integrated Arts Education team — and even as a graduate, Van continues to take part in Hart House events.

For Van, Hart House is a place where students can feel seen and supported — somewhere to pause, share ideas and build real connections beyond the classroom.
