Last week, Hospice Toronto was honoured to welcome MPP Stephanie Smyth for Toronto-St. Paul's for a meaningful visit and conversation around our programs and services.

We were proud to share more about our Creating Caring Communities (CCC) program, including a newly funded initiative through the Ontario Seniors Grant:

🍍Cultural Integration of Food: Introducing News Types of Fruits & Vegetables to Seniors for Nutrition and Health – launching this fall! This program will be funded by the Government of Ontario.

We also discussed our Young Carers Program (YCP), which supports youth under 18 who take on caregiving roles at home, as well as our in-home hospice services and expressive therapies such as reiki, art and grief and bereavement.

Thank you, MPP Stephanie Smyth, for your time and thoughtful engagement. Your support helps shine a light on the importance of compassionate, community-based care. 💜

This Father’s Day, we celebrate the strength, love, and wisdom of dads, grandfathers, uncles, and father figures in every form. 💜

We also recognize that for many, today brings a mix of joy and heartache, especially for families whose loved one is nearing the end of their lives.

At Hospice Toronto, we walk beside these families, offering compassionate in-home hospice care so fathers can spend their final days surrounded by love, dignity, and peace.

To all the caregivers, sons, daughters, and loved ones supporting a father through this journey, you are not alone. And to the fathers we serve and remember today, we honour you.

Our Hospice Toronto team had the opportunity to attend the Hospice Palliative Care Ontario (HPCO) Annual Conference from June 8–10. It was a full and inspiring few days with over 800 healthcare professionals from across Canada and around the world!💙

We took in:
✨ 4 moving keynotes
✨ 80 workshops
✨ 52 lightning talks

The sessions explored fresh, innovative ways to support patients, families, care teams, and communities through hospice palliative care. A heartfelt thank you to all the organizers and speakers.

And a special celebration is in order: Wendy Joscelyn, one of our incredible volunteers, was honoured with the June Callwood Award for Outstanding Hospice Volunteers. Wendy has offered Reiki and Healing Touch to clients for 21 years and contributed over 700 hours of compassionate care. Thank you for your dedication and all that you do.

We’re joining the national movement led by GenWell for Loneliness Awareness Week to highlight a growing issue among older adults: social isolation.

At Hospice Toronto, our volunteers play a powerful role in helping older adults feel connected and cared for. Whether it’s a friendly visit, a walk in the park, or a shared hobby, these moments help reduce loneliness and improve health and wellbeing.
Did you know?

💬 Social isolation and low social participation are linked to higher mortality rates, with low participators being more likely to die earlier than those who participate regularly in social activities. *

👣 Even simple actions - like saying hello or going for a walk - can build meaningful connection.

This week, take a moment to reach out. Your time and presence could make all the difference to a senior in your life.

As a footnote to loneliness: it affects people of all ages. It isn't always about being alone, it's also about feeling disconnected

Volunteering is a powerful way to foster connection at any age. In fact, our volunteers often tell us, “I get so much more than I give.”

Big news!💜

On May 23, we were honoured to receive a grant from the Petro-Canada CareMakers Foundation, presented in recognition of our work supporting family caregivers and individuals in their care across Toronto.

This funding will help us expand access to care, connect families to the support they need, and continue to innovate in how we deliver compassionate, home-based hospice services.

Thank you to the CareMakers Foundation for supporting local organizations like ours who walk alongside caregivers every day. Together, we’re making a meaningful impact where it matters most—at home, in our communities.
