Volunteering at Hospice Toronto has been a humbling and introspective experience… the time we spent together profoundly impacted me, reminding me to stay present and value every encounter in life.” — HC

As we approach the end of the year, we want to pause and reflect — with gratitude. 💙

This past year reminded us of the power of compassion, community, and showing up for one another during life’s most vulnerable moments. Because of the generosity of our donors, partners, volunteers, and community supporters, Hospice Toronto was able to bring care, dignity, and connection into homes across our city.

As our CEO Dena Maule shares:
✨ “This year reaffirmed what we’ve always known — that care rooted in compassion and community has the power to change lives. Every conversation, every visit, every moment of support is made possible because people choose to care.”

To our donors: thank you for trusting us to walk alongside individuals and families during some of life’s hardest moments. Your support continues to make this work possible — today and into the year ahead.

As we head into the holiday season, we wish you peace, warmth, and time to rest with those you love.

Please note that Hospice Toronto’s offices will be closed from December 24 through to January 2, reopening on January 5.

With heartfelt thanks and holiday wishes from all of us at Hospice Toronto. 💛

For many people, the holidays — and the start of a new year — can be a tender and challenging time. Traditions may feel different, memories can surface unexpectedly, and for those experiencing their first holiday season after the loss of a loved one, the absence can feel especially heavy.

Hospice Toronto’s Grief and Bereavement Support Program is here to offer comfort, understanding, and connection — during the holidays and throughout the year. Our compassionate support includes one-on-one volunteer sessions and facilitated group programs, including spousal, parent, and expressive arts groups.

Every grief journey is different. That’s why our care is guided by thoughtful assessment and personalized support plans that honour each person’s experience and create space for healing and resilience.

💙 As we welcome the New Year, you can help ensure this care continues by making a donation or becoming a monthly donor. Your support helps ensure that no one has to navigate grief alone.

At Hospice Toronto, we believe that healing is not only medical — it’s emotional, spiritual, and deeply human.

Our Expressive Arts Therapy (EXAT) program offers individuals and families a compassionate space to explore their experiences through creativity. 🎨💛

Whether through painting, poetry, collage, music, or movement, EXAT provides an opportunity to express feelings that can be hard to put into words. It helps clients process grief, connect with memories, and discover moments of peace and resilience.

In the past year, our therapists supported over 216 clients through both individual and group sessions, partnering with communities across Toronto to bring comfort and care where it’s needed most.

Expressive Arts Therapy is a reminder that creativity can be a lifeline — a way to hold joy, grief, and hope all at once.

Today we’re spotlighting HJ, one of our dedicated Home and Community Care volunteers whose compassion continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our clients. 💙

HJ began volunteering with Hospice Toronto in September 2023, supporting a client who was aphasic and had difficulty with mobility. Over time, their visits became a source of connection and trust — and one moment in particular will stay with HJ forever.

As HJ was leaving one day, the client reached out to shake their hand for the very first time and told them to get home safely. ✨

This simple gesture carried profound meaning.

It reflected the bond they had built, the effort it took for the client to communicate, and the deeply human relationships that hospice volunteering nurtures.

HJ shares:
“These beautiful and meaningful moments are my primary drives in providing altruistic acts of service.”

Thank you, HJ, for the care, dignity, and compassion you bring into people’s homes and lives. You embody what Hospice Toronto stands for. 💛

Meet Aman, one of our incredible Young Carers Program (YCP) summer students. ☀️💙

During his time with YCP, Aman supported young carers as they connected with peers who truly understand what caregiving looks like at their age. Along the way, he learned about their resilience, their responsibilities, and the courage they show every single day.

Some of his favourite moments were the simple ones — playing basketball, learning new card games, cheering on talent show performances, and sharing laughs and memories that will last a lifetime.

✨ “To me, this wasn’t a conventional job — it felt meaningful and special. The staff, volunteers, and youth created such a supportive, joyful environment. It was genuinely my favourite experience in my undergraduate degree.” — Aman

Thank you, Aman, for helping create a space where young carers feel seen, supported, and celebrated. 💛

Did you know that thousands of young people across Toronto take on caregiving roles at home — often without recognition or support? 💛

At Hospice Toronto, the Young Carers Program (YCP) provides a safe, fun, and understanding space for youth who support a family member living with illness, disability, mental health challenges, or addictions.

In YCP, young carers can:
💛 Connect with peers who “get it”
💛 Enjoy expressive arts, workshops, and creative activities
💛 Join fun outings and team-building sessions
💛 Build confidence, leadership skills, and emotional resilience
💛 Access programs like S.I.B.S, Grief Literacy Workshops, DIY sessions & more

Last year alone, the program delivered:
✨ 913 sessions
✨ 1,139+ hours of support
✨ 105 youth connected and cared for
✨ Special outings like the Toronto Maple Leafs game and the ROM

Every young carer deserves a space to be understood, supported, and celebrated — and that’s exactly what YCP provides. 💙
