💛 Young Carers Program Spotlight

We’re proud to highlight the impact of our Young Carers Program through feedback from the families we serve.

From hands-on creative projects to youth leadership sessions, YCP offers young carers a supportive space to connect with peers, build skills, and grow their confidence. Families often share how meaningful and energizing these experiences are for their children.

Thank you to the parents and youth who continue to share their journeys with us — it’s a privilege to be part of it. 🌱

- Families who support each other through life’s most challenging moments

💗 This Valentine’s Day, Love Looks Like Presence 💗

While Valentine’s Day often focuses on romantic love, we know it can also be a difficult time for those feeling lonely, grieving a loss, or caring for a loved one.

Today, we want to say thank you — to caregivers who show up every day with patience and compassion, to volunteers who offer connection and comfort, and to families navigating serious illness with strength and love.

If today feels heavy, please know you are not alone. Hospice Toronto is here with support, understanding, and care — before, during, and after end-of-life.

Giving Today. Make Care Possible Tomorrow. 💙

Hospice Toronto provides compassionate, volunteer-based care to people and families facing serious illness - at no cost to them. But government funding doesn’t cover the full cost of care, so we rely on your generosity to bridge the gap.

Here’s what your support helps make possible:

🌿 $25 — Helps provide meaningful connection through volunteer visits that bring comfort and companionship
🌿 $50 — Contributes to warm, nutritious meals delivered to clients and caregivers in need
🌿 $100 — Supports grief and bereavement resources for families navigating loss
🌿 $250+ — Helps fund in-home support so individuals can remain with loved ones in familiar surroundings

Every gift - large or small - ensures we’re here before, during, and after end-of-life care. Join our community of compassionate supporters and help us continue Adding Life to Days across the GTA.

💛 Volunteer Spotlight: Transformative Care Through Presence

“It has been an honour and a privilege to work with my Hospice clients… I’m constantly struck by the transformative power of simply witnessing somebody.”

At Hospice Toronto, volunteers provide more than practical support — they offer presence, compassion, and dignity to clients and families during life’s most meaningful moments.

We are grateful for the volunteers whose time, care, and attention help clients feel seen and supported, while also growing personally through the experience.

February is Black History Month, and this year we honour 30 years of recognizing the brilliance of Black Canadians - from leaders and innovators to community builders shaping the future.

At Hospice Toronto, we also acknowledge the ongoing barriers some communities face in accessing hospice and palliative care. We are proud to work with local partners to provide inclusive, culturally sensitive support for individuals and families across the GTA.

This month, we celebrate Black excellence and reaffirm our commitment to equitable care for all communities.

Hospice Toronto’s Creating Caring Communities (CCC) program works alongside diverse communities to support people living with serious illness and their caregivers — helping them remain at home with dignity, comfort, and culturally responsive care.

By strengthening existing networks of family members, neighbours, and community supports, CCC helps reduce isolation and ensures people feel seen, valued, and supported.

As one CCC client, RW, shared after celebrating a milestone birthday:

“Your kindness has reminded me that I am not alone, not invisible and that my life has touched others.”

This is the impact of compassionate, community-led care. 💛

Support Before, During & After End-of-Life Care

At Hospice Toronto, caring for families isn’t limited to the final days — it’s a journey we walk alongside you every step of the way.

🌿 Before: We help families understand their options, plan care, build a support team, and connect with community partners so they feel informed and supported long before end of life arrives.

🤝 During: Through our In-Home Support and hospice care model, we provide emotional, spiritual, and practical support — from respite for caregivers and meaningful companionship, to light household help and expressive activities that add comfort and dignity.

💛 After: Grief and bereavement don’t end when life ends. Hospice Toronto offers ongoing support, resources, and connections to help families navigate loss in ways that honour their loved ones.

💐 A lasting way to support this care: Many supporters choose to leave a legacy gift — through a bequest in their will, by naming Hospice Toronto as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy or RRSP/RRIF, or through a gift of publicly traded securities — helping ensure compassionate care continues for generations to come.

You don’t have to face this journey alone.

"When I think of JW I am left with a quiet smile." 💙

MF, a Hospice Toronto volunteer, had the privilege of visiting JW twice a week during his final year. Through simple moments of companionship, a meaningful connection was formed — one that MF describes as “a wonderful gift.”

Hospice volunteering isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about being present, listening, and offering kindness when it matters most.

If you’re looking for a meaningful way to give back to your community, we’d love to hear from you.
