Mother’s Day can hold joy, grief, gratitude, longing, exhaustion, love, healing — and sometimes all of them at once. 💙

For some, this day feels warm and celebratory.
For others, it brings complicated relationships, loss, infertility, distance, burnout, or reminders of what they needed but didn’t receive.

Whatever this day brings up for you, your experience is valid.
You do not have to force joy to deserve compassion.

Be gentle with yourself today. 🌊

In the very first episode of .twistpodcast, Laura Devlin and Becky Loucks sit down for their first recorded conversation together. They talk openly about the vulnerability of being visible—sharing ideas publicly, speaking authentically, and showing up even when the internal critic is loud. As therapists, business owners, and humans navigating their own plot twists, they reflect on how difficult it can be to step into the spotlight while still staying true to who you are.

The conversation explores how unexpected life events—diagnoses, relationship ruptures, career shifts, and other destabilizing moments—can shake our sense of identity and safety. Laura and Becky introduce the concept of “plot twists” in life and how resilience often looks messy in real time. They discuss post-traumatic growth, the importance of connection during difficult seasons, and the small steps that help people rebuild meaning and stability after life changes direction.

In this episode you’ll hear…

✔️ Why Laura and Becky decided to start the podcast and what “visibility” means in their own journeys

✔️ The internal barriers many people face when putting themselves out there, including perfectionism and fear of judgment

✔️ How unexpected life events—diagnoses, relationship loss, betrayal, or career changes—can disrupt the narratives we hold about ourselves and the world

✔️ The difference between pain and suffering, and how our psychological narratives shape the way we process difficult experiences

✔️ What resilience actually looks like in real life (hint: it often looks messy and imperfect)

✔️ An introduction to the concept of post-traumatic growth and how people adapt after life’s major plot twists

✔️ Why recognizing our shared human experience can reduce isolation and strengthen emotional resilience

At Beaches Therapy Group, we don’t just talk about our values, we try to live them by really reflecting on our company culture.

This spring, our leadership team is doing a Dare to Lead book club inspired by Brené Brown and using it as a chance to reflect on how we actually show up at work.

Because leadership, like therapy, isn’t about getting it perfect. It’s about being honest, staying open, and being willing to grow. There are so many moments and decisions that are unclear and super confusing for us as leaders. But knowing we're part of a team where transparency and support is primary makes it much easier.

A few of the themes we keep coming back to: ✨ Choosing courage over comfort.

✨ Letting ourselves be seen, even when it feels vulnerable
✨ Getting clear on our values and following through on them
✨ Having the hard conversations with care and respect
✨ Taking responsibility for how we show up with each other.

We really believe that what happens behind the scenes shapes the experience our clients have with us.

So this season, we’re asking ourselves some simple but important questions.
How are we leading?
How are we listening?
And how can we keep showing up in a way that actually reflects what we believe in?

Feeling anxious this time of year? Your first instinct might be to breathe, meditate or scroll endlessly.

Sometimes the simplest thing works best: reading.

Even just 5–10 minutes with a book can give your brain a safe focus, slow racing thoughts and calm your nervous system. It works for kids, teens, adults; anyone who needs a mental reset.

The next time anxiety spikes, try picking up a book instead of your phone. Your brain and mood will thank you.
