Clinical depression has physical(Bio-chemical),mental health, relational and spiritual basis. It is more than a disease because God make us to be holistic human and one dimension affects the others.

e.g. living in sin(the spiritual dimension can bring depression to a person's life) affecting our physical (reduced energy/appetite, suffering insomnia,etc.) mental health (negative /distorted thinking, paranoid etc.)
relational health ( being withdrawn from others, skeptical, lack of bonding relationships, narcissistic behaviors etc). Being sick can also affects a person in other 3 dimensions as well when there's a lack of balance that affects our functioning.

There are multiple causes of depression but the lack of love is very fundamental and the person's anger turns inward.

In many incidences, depression is just part of symptoms of people that are diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

My initial response dealing with people that presents symptoms of depression with suicidal ideation would be:1/ask them to sign a no suicidal contract with me 2/refer them immediately for psychiatric evaluation and medication to stabilize the symptoms 3/ formulate support and short-term goals together with them including finding a safe place for them.

The no su***de contract works very well and I see immediate results with them feeling protected. Today, it's by the grace of God that I see this client who came to see me in April with suicidal thinking and he signed the contract with me.back then. He is doing so much better and struggle with no suicidal thoughts anymore. Praise the Lord in healing him step by step.

The Lord can redeem your wounded years and your wounded past. I have worked with many through theophostic healing prayers.
