Youthful Cities

Youthful Cities Leading a unique urban regeneration towards youthfulness. YouthfulCities is a global initiative to rank the world’s top 100 cities from a youth perspective. Why?

And lead a unique urban regeneration in the process. Simply put, cities are full of youth. Youth are at the center of urbanization. They build a city’s competitive edge, stimulate development and find new solutions. They are connectors. They are curious. They are inventive. They are dynamic. They are the future of cities. In 2012 we discovered two amazing stats that set our social venture in motion: 50 per cent of the world's population is under 30 years of age and 50 per cent of the world's population now live in cities. The future of the world will be determined by the progression of urbanization as it is molded by youth. While this provides strong motivation for cities to maximize the potential of youth, their opinions are often unrecognized. There are countless indexes and rankings of cities, but none with a youth perspective. We decided to find out what would happen if we were able to inspire and engage thousands of young people to re-imagine the places where they live, work and play. So... YouthfulCities was born! Because we believe that youth are good for cities and cities are good for youth.

What happens when young people get real space to reimagine the future of skilled trades?

This winter in Montréal, we brought together youth to dig into exactly that — the barriers, the blind spots, and what actually needs to change.

What did they come up with? A clearer map for students navigating career options. Funded pathways into regional communities. Ways to shift how trades are talked about in schools. And mentorship programs designed by people who actually needed them.

Youth didn't just identify the problems. They built the solutions.

And that’s a wrap 🎉

Our final Skilled Trades Lab session at wrapped up weeks of ideas, discussions, and youth-driven solutions about the future of skilled trades.

We talked pathways into trades in Quebec, learned networking tips from (Rosa-Li Parisien), and got ready for Antisalon 2026.

The last activity? Mapping out what’s next because the Lab may be over, but the journey is just getting started 🚀

From challenges to solutions 💡

On Feb 19, our Skilled Trades Lab session at focused on turning ideas into action. With insights from @.quebec on social innovation, participants used the 5 Whys to unpack root causes and then built youth-centered, practical solutions ready to be tested.

Plenty of creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking in the room 👏

Big thanks to and for grounding the conversation in what young workers actually need to know.

Skilled trades = skills + financial literacy + knowing your rights.

🌲🤖 AI meets Skilled Trades 🤖🌲
On Jan 29, we held the second session of the Skilled Trades Lab at Quartier Jeunesse, and this time we zoomed in on AI & forestry with hands-on, youth-led exploration.

With , youth:
✨ Learned the basics of AI (risks + opportunities)
✨ Explored how AI is already used in forestry
✨ Identified risks AI could help reduce
✨ Stepped into real industry roles like logistics coordinator to make decisions

Huge thanks to our amazing facilitators:
👏 Gabrielle Hurtubise-Radet (Digital Moment / Polaire)
👏 Hadrien Bertrand, PhD (CTO at Polaire, former Mila researcher)
👏 Axel Bogos (Co-Founder & AI Scientist at Driad)

AI isn’t the future of skilled trades: it’s already here.
The real question is: who gets to shape how it’s used? 🔥
