After weeks of intimidation from their employer, workers at Central West Specialized Developmental Services (CWSDS) are on strike for a fair deal!

“The bargaining team came to the mediation table ready to negotiate a fair deal,” said Julie Geiss, President of OPSEU/SEFPO Local 249. “We care deeply about the people we support and we do not want to see a disruption in services. But after more than 40 days in a potential lockout position - and in the face of ongoing intimidation tactics and no meaningful movement from our employer - the situation became untenable. We had no choice but to withdraw our labour.”

Show your solidarity and join the picket line at 53 Bond Street in Oakville. Strike lines start at 7:00 am and will run all day.

Congratulations to our friends and allies at the Ontario Coalition for Better Child Care, the Association of Early Childhood Educators Ontario, and CUPE!

Their Child Care Workers are Worth More! campaign has won the 2025 Good Fight Prize from the Atkinson Foundation - recognizing fearless campaigns for decent work.

By organizing across unions, families, and communities, they helped lift the wage floor for early childhood educators and child care workers and continue to fight for a fair wage grid, benefits, and pensions.

Proud to join in solidarity with you in the fight for decent work for all!

The OFL condemns the Ford Government’s decision to vote against MPP Alexa Gilmour’s motion to end gender-based violence

This shameful decision ignores the urgent testimony of survivors and frontline workers who made clear that action is essential to save lives. The Ford government has once again failed Ontario women and gender-diverse people by refusing to properly fund and resource the supports needed to combat gender-based violence and intimate partner violence.

Did you know that in Ontario, most injured workers have their benefits cut off when they turn 65? The OFL joined injured workers and advocates to tell Ford’s government that Rights Don’t Retire. Let’s work together to end age discrimination in our workers compensation system.

44% of Canadian women will experience intimate partner violence in their lifetime - higher for 2SLGBTQ+ women (67%), Indigenous women (61%), women living in poverty (57%), and women with disabilities (55%).

Poverty, housing instability, and job insecurity trap women in unsafe situations.

Conservative cuts to public services, shelters, and childcare make it harder for women to survive and rebuild.

96% of child care workers and 75% of community service workers are women yet their wages are suppressed, and layoffs are rising.

Women’s safety depends on their economic security.

It’s time to invest in care, community, and equality - not cuts.
