Dr. Sanjog Kalra, interventional cardiologist at UHN's Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, took his cardiac expertise to a global stage.

Dr. Kalra recently led a live intravascular imaging procedure as part of Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics Conference. Thousands of clinicians tuned in to see real‑time decision‑making and technical skill in action, supported by interactive discussions that helped deepen understanding of the complex work involved.

Live case sessions are a powerful educational format in cardiovascular medicine that demonstrate how shared expertise can elevate patient care globally.

Congratulations to Dr. Robert James Cusimano on his appointment to the Order of Ontario, the province’s highest civilian honour.

Dr. Cusimano is an internationally acclaimed cardiac surgeon and educator known for redefining care for malignant cardiac tumours. As the lead of a multidisciplinary program at University Health Network and complex cardiac surgeries at UHN’s Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, he shares his methods and insights with doctors globally and at home, inspiring the next generation of cardiac care professionals.

Maria, a high school senior looking forward to prom and graduation, fainted during a routine day. The event led to cardiac testing and eventually, a diagnosis of a heart tumour.

Maria needed a complex surgery that required opening her chest and removing a mass from her heart without damaging vital structures and valves. Only two cardiac surgeons in the world could perform this rare procedure. The surgery was completed by Dr. Robert Cusimano and his team at UHN’s Peter Munk Cardiac Centre.

Maria has quickly recovered, and the lifesaving surgery has inspired to pursue a career as a cardiac perfusionist to help others. Read her story here: https://bit.ly/4p3pUSU
