NHCI’s NIDO Pot Dance and Drum program continues to bring music, movement, and cultural connection to retirement communities 🥁✨

On November 15, 2025, NHCI delivered a NIDO Pot Dance and Drum session at Woods Park Community & Retirement Living in Barrie. The session was led by Justine Birabwa, Programs Manager, alongside pot dancer Flavia Priscilla Nakate. Paula Ballantyne, Resident Engagement Manager at Woods Park Community & Retirement Living, whose support helped make the session a meaningful experience for residents.

This session was delivered with the support of a volunteer, as part of our ongoing partnerships that help strengthen programs such as Suubi and Pot Dance. As these programs continue to grow, adjudicators are also seeking volunteer participation to support future initiatives.

Through drumming, movement, and cultural storytelling, residents experienced joy, creativity, and meaningful connection.

NHCI, through its NIDO Pot Dance and Drum program, is proud to continue sharing the joy of music, movement, and culture with retirement homes and the wider community 🥁✨

On December 5th, our team led by Herman Sebayiigaiga, NIDO Events Coordinator, and Justine Birabwa, Programs Manager, alongside seasoned pot dancer Flavia Priscilla Nakate was warmly welcomed at Muskoka Landing Retirement Lodge. Over 30 residents and staff took part in a vibrant and interactive session, graciously hosted by Lisa Monsalves, Recreation Coordinator.

The day was filled with energy and warmth, highlighted by a song created by the residents themselves, “It Is a Lovely Day Today,” which beautifully captured the uplifting and joyful spirit shared by everyone in attendance.

Each one-hour session begins with a brief introduction to Retire@Home’s NHCI and NIDO programs, followed by an educational overview of the cultural significance of pots within African communities. Residents are then invited to fully immerse themselves in the Pot Dance and Drum experience through pot listening, drumming, and movement activities. Participants not only enjoy the rhythm and creativity, but also benefit from the therapeutic, social, and emotional connections fostered during the session.

Since November 7th, the program has visited over seven retirement homes, with approximately 90% of participants actively engaging in creating music and drum rhythms bringing meaningful cultural experiences, connection, and joy to residents and staff alike.

This Remembrance Day, we stand together to honour every brave soul who served our country, the soldiers who fought with courage, the ones who made the ultimate sacrifice, and the veterans who continue to carry the weight of their service. 🪖❤️

We also recognize the nurses and medical teams who stood on the front lines, providing care, strength, and compassion in the darkest moments. 💉🩺✨ Their dedication saved countless lives and brought hope where it was needed most.

To our soldiers: thank you for your bravery, your resilience, and your commitment to protecting our freedoms. 🙏

To our nurses, doctors: thank you for your healing hands, your courage, and your unwavering service beside the troops. ❤️‍🩹

Today, we remember them all, their sacrifice, their stories, and their legacy. Lest we forget. 🌺

🕯️ Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day 🕯️

Today, on October 15, we join the global community in recognizing Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day, a day of reflection, remembrance, and compassion for families who have experienced the unimaginable loss of a baby during pregnancy, at birth, or in infancy.

This observance began in 1988, when U.S. President Ronald Reagan proclaimed October as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. Since then, it has evolved into an international day of awareness, symbolized by the Wave of Light, where families around the world light candles at 7:00 p.m. to honor the little lives gone too soon.

At Nexim Healthcare Consultants Inc., we stand with all families touched by loss. We acknowledge the emotional and lasting impact of such experiences and remain committed to providing compassionate, patient-centered care that extends beyond clinical support to emotional healing and empathy.

Today, we remember. We reflect. And we reaffirm our commitment to supporting families with understanding, dignity, and care.

💙💗 Gone but never forgotten.
