PMS and PMDD (a more severe form resulting in significant mood changes, anxiety or depression before your period) can cause women significant disruption in their lives.

Some women may even feel they need SSRIs and anti-depressants to treat their symptoms. However, many women are reluctant to do so so as they feel well the rest of the month.

I want you to know there are other options for you. First, identifying your unique cause of PMS is important in determining the right treatment for you! But the two supplements below have shown great benefit in some studies.
Calcium can reduce PMS headaches, pain, cravings and mood changes by as much as 50%! A dose of 800-1500 mg daily, in divided works well. Always take calcium away from iron supplements.

Saffron is an herb that works very well for anxiety and depression in recent studies and may even help boost the effectiveness of SSRIs.

For PMS/PMDD it may result in a 50% decrease in PMS mood changes/anxiety/depression that worsens with cycles. A 15 mg supplement taken 1-2X/day is a good place to start.

You may start to notice the benefits of these supplements by third or fourth cycle. So give it the time it needs to work!

Calcium and saffron are only two of a larger group of supplements you may need to support your hormones.

Suffering from Migraines?

Here's how to:
1) Identify if they're hormonally related 👱🏻‍♀️🧠 and
2) Some potential therapies 👩🏼‍⚕️

Migraines can be triggered any time in the menstrual cycle where hormones fluctuate. When hormonal imbalances are present, this may exacerbate these fluctuations, making you more prone to migraines as the levels of estrogen rise and fall.

This can include:
🗓around ovulation or mid-month
🗓just prior to period
🗓during period
🗓just after your period

To identify a pattern, it is best to keep a headache/migraine LOG in accordance with your menstrual cycle. 📆 Track this in your cycle app and see if you get them regularly around any of the times above.

We may also 👩‍🔬 test your hormones on day 3 and/or day 19-21 of your cycle to support any patterns you see in your charting for confirmation.

Migraines can be effectively prevented and treated with several supplements. These are quite successful for most people.

🌟B2 - 400 mg daily
🌟COQ10 - 200-300mg daily
🌟Vitamin D
🌟 Magnesium citrate, bisglycinate or threonate (only one to pass blood brain barrier) - 150-800 mg daily (type and case dependent)
🌟 Melatonin helpful for some (remember, it's a hormone too!) - 3mg at night (sustained or prolonged release best)
🌟Feverfew - 100-300 mg up to 3x/day
🌟Curcumin - if inflammation is a factor
🌟 Supplements to balance hormones depending on levels of estradiol and progesterone

There are many diet and lifestyle factors that are equally important in treating migraines! I'll post soon, but to start ensure you're drinking plenty of water!

Speak to your ND about helping you understand YOUR underlying cause as this helps identify the best treatment for you.

The 3 best types of cervical mucus to look for when trying to conceive:

1) CREAMY/COPIOUS amount or an increase in overall volume means that ovulation may be nearing within the next few days to 1 week or so.

2) Watery, slippery and increased volume - likely getting even closer to ovulation.

3) Raw Egg Whites (that doesn't easily break when stretched between your fingers) - this is the MOST FERTILE TYPE to watch for. Likely closest to ovulation or ovulating.

Note:
🌟After ovulation, things tend to decrease in volume and gets stickier or tackier toward your period.
🌟If you notice your discharge sticks around (creamy or watery and not sticky) you may be pregnant!
🌟 Just after your period things are still somewhat dry, but ramp up usually between days 8-10 for most women.
🌟The best time to conceive is when you see any one of these types of cervical mucus. Having s*x in the week leading up to suspected ovulation on and off, can help to increase your odds of pregnancy.
🌟Even if not yet TTC, tracking and noticing these types of mucus can help you understand your fertility for when you're ready to try.
🌟Not all woman produce large amounts, that's ok! If you need help identifying yours, I can help.

Ps. Can someone help me do that cool TikTok voiceover effect? I don't think this one suits me 😂

3 things to start doing if you're looking to get pregnant in the next 3-6 months:

1) Start tracking your cycles!

🌟this helps to identify your average cycle length to better guess what your fertile days are and when you might ovulate.

🌟Healthy cycles typically range from 26-32 days. If they are much shorter, longer or very irregular, you may have a harder time identifying ovulation. There's also a chance you may have an underlying disorder that is causing anovulation (lack of ovulation) as well.

2) Start noticing and tracking the various types of cervical mucus throughout the month.

See if there's a pattern. Fertile mucus typically appears watery or like raw egg whites and become more copious than the rest of the month.

In a 28-30 day cycle this may occur anywhere between days 10-18. However every cycle is different and varies widely between each woman!

3) Start taking a food quality folic acid or folate supplement. My favourite is prenatal SAP by NFH which contains 1 mg of folate in 3 caps/day and a wide range of bio available nutrients to support conception and a healthy pregnancy.

✨APPLE CHIPS✨ I don’t know about you, but we ordered a ton of apples from grocery delivery while we but a large package of them was sadly already going bad - bumps, bruises, some mush 😩! So we decided to make MEATY apple chips. Most apple chip recipes call for super thin slicing and 2 hours in the oven on a lower setting. These were cut thicker and we cooked them at 350F until they were golden brown on each side. Flip half way. I sadly can’t tell you exactly how long it took because things were hectic 😂but just keep an eye on them (I’ll remake them again too and post the time) but really it depends what thickness you choose!! I think it was around 10-15 mins on each side? 🤷🏼‍♀️
TOPPINGS: we used EVOO spray, cinnamon and a sprinkle of sea salt and vanilla extract. Other ideas include pumpkin spice, nutmeg, brown sugar, coconut flakes, anything, go wild!!
What recipes have you been making at home lately? Post below, love new ideas! 💕🙏

✨Homemade High Protein Gummies✨ have been saving me lately! Being home always leads to more snacking but being busy with the kids/with work etc can make it tough to pull together quick healthy snacks! I have one or two throughout the day and another couple at night, it’s only slightly sweet but the texture of a gummy and great protein source! You can also choose to add sweetener if you like, such a maple syrup, stevia, etc. I recommend staying away from white sugar and artificial sweeteners, esp if you have an autoimmune disease, are looking to lose weight or have a gut disorder. But really it’s a recommendation to all 😊!
Ingredients:
1) juice of choice- 2.5 cups
2) 7-8 tbsp unflavoured gelatin powder (I used Great Lakes brand, 11g pure protein/tbsp, 0% any other macronutrients)
3) Optional Add Ins: vanilla extract, peppermint extract, orange extract, lemon juice, concentrated powders (spirulina, chlorella, turmeric, Goji berry, etc) and/or sweeteners.
HOW TO:
1)mix half the juice into a bowl with 5 tbsp of gelatin.
2) pour remaining juice into pan and simmer on medium-low, then dissolve in remaining 2-3 tbsp of gelatin.
3) Pour add-ins of choice into pan and dissolve.
4) Mix hot contents into cold juice in the bowl
5) Stir well and pour into gummy or ice molds (silicone recommended) Refrigerate for an hour or more or until firm.
6) Pop out and enjoy!! Keep refrigerated!
Took 10 minutes max to put together! Kids also love doing this. Let me know if you try it!
