Small shifts are still big wins. Healing isn’t always loud. It’s not always a breakthrough moment or a dramatic realization.

Sometimes it’s subtle. Like being able to sit with your thoughts without spiraling.

Or finishing lunch and moving on with your day.

💬 This is what healing can feel like, and we’re honored to support our clients in finding that peace.

You’ve heard of “food freedom”, but what does it actually feel like? 👉

For many of the people we work with, it’s not dramatic or loud. It’s a quiet shift. A deep breath at the table. A moment where food becomes just *food* again.

It’s choosing nourishment without guilt. Laughing through dinner with friends. Letting go of the rules you thought kept you safe and realizing you’re still okay.

It’s not perfect. But it’s peaceful. ✨ And it’s possible.

🫶 Save this or send it to someone who needs to hear it.

📞 Our intake team is here when you’re ready, judgment-free.

For many people with restrictive eating disorders, the focus on weight becomes central, especially if they’ve been in a hospital or medical setting where recovery was measured in numbers: BMI, “ideal body weight,” or percentages.

And yes, weight restoration can be a necessary part of stabilizing the body.
But healing goes way beyond weight.

Weight lives in the objective world.
The eating disorder, however, lives in your thoughts, emotions, patterns, and vulnerabilities.

If we only treat the physical, we miss the heart of the healing.
That’s why at EatWell, we look at the full picture, your relationship with food, the way you see yourself, and the underlying reasons why the ED took hold in the first place.

Let’s talk about social media & eating disorders.

Social media often gets blamed for causing eating disorders but the truth is, eating disorders existed long before Instagram filters and highlight reels.

Having said that, social media can intensify the struggle for sure. It offers constant comparison, unrealistic beauty standards, unhelpful but alluring content (what I eat in a day, grocery store hauls, etc) and a ton of conflicting health advice. On top of that, the algorithm then doubles down on this content and makes a bad problem worse! This can make recovery feel even more confusing and overwhelming.

In the early stages, a lot of clients admit that they follow a lot of accounts that serve the ED and ask if we suggest taking a break from social media. The answer is that we do!

💡 In recovery, being intentional about what you consume online really matters. If you do stay on social media, curate your feed, unfollow triggering accounts, and fill your space with voices that support your healing. You deserve that.

One of the things our clients struggle with the most is hitting a rough patch (usually this means with symptoms) after a period of progress. It can feel confusing, frustrating, and like you’re somehow failing. But you’re not.

When life happens, as it always does, and something challenging comes your way, as it always will, the eating disorder might get louder again, trying to offer itself as a solution, comfort or familiarity. That doesn’t mean you’ve erased progress or have taken a step back. It means you’re facing something real, you now have increased awareness of a vulnerability and you see where there is work to be done! This is helpul! 🌿

The ED surging doesn’t mean you’re off track... it mean you’re human.
Keep going. You’re still moving forward, even when it doesn’t feel like it.

Here’s what we tell our patients all the time:
If it feels uncomfortable… that’s a good sign.

It often feels wrong at first, because you’re doing the opposite of what the eating disorder tells you. You may feel anxious, scared, lost, sad (this is unexpected for a lot of people) or unsure. But that discomfort means you’re challenging the eating disorder that you have been blindly obeying 💥

Another sign? You’re starting to hear your healthy voice, which is your true self, coming through, even if just in small moments. That voice is YOUR guide and has been mostly held hostage by the eating disorder, buried under the its thoughts/rules/dictatorship!

Bring on the challenging emotions, it’s temporary and your future self is waiting!

Binge eating isn’t about a lack of willpower (at all)... It’s about unmet needs, unspoken words, lonliness, a need to numb.

If you’re struggling with binge eating, know this: you’re not broken, and you’re not alone. Bingeing is complicated! On a physiological level, it’s often a response to restriction (the binge-restrict cycle is very real and it’s very difficult) or disconnect from your body’s cues. On an emotional level, it’s overwhelm, big emotions that you don’t necessarily know how to process, and it’s comfort.

A lot of clients come to EatWell and talk about how they “”know”” what they need to do with food but can’t seem to do it. And they also come feeling a tremendous sense of failure. One of the first steps in treatment is learning to really understand why the bingeing is happening. It’s almost impossible to intervene on a symptom if you have no awareness around why it’s happening. Also, willpower is finite and can’t be the solution! When you understand and can start working on what the binge eating is actually about, willpower isn’t part of the plan.

📲 If binge eating is impacting your life, our team is here to help. Reach out to our clinic today!

A patient once described it this way and it stuck with me! It’s a moment in recovery where things feel shaky, uncomfortable, or overwhelming (in your life), and the eating disorder shows up, offering temporary comfort, familiarity, and a false sense of control.

It’s not a sign of failure. It’s a sign of awareness. ✨

Being able to recognize the presence of the eating disorder is a big deal. An added bonus: when this happens, it shows you where healing is still needed and where vulnerabilities lie.

When someone reaches full recovery, the eating disorder no longer “offers itself.” It no longer feels like a solution. And that’s the outcome we are interested in.

📲 If you’re at a point where you can see the ED showing up again, know that support is here. Let our team help you take the next step toward lasting recovery.

Eating disorders and disordered eating exist on a spectrum, and that spectrum is defined more by how intrusive the thoughts and behaviours are, and less by the labels themselves.

Some people can still function day-to-day, while others feel completely consumed and immobilized by the disorder. The degree to which you are functioning or immobilized is dynamic and constantly changing. So no matter where you fall on the spectrum, you deserve to get help.

You don’t need to “have it worse” or meet every checkbox to be struggling. If food, body image, or eating habits are affecting your life, that’s enough reason to reach out.

Healing is possible, and you don’t have to wait for things to get “bad enough” to start.
