The belief that your worth is tied to what you do isn’t a coincidence. For many high achievers, this message has been reinforced for years.

You’ve been praised for pushing through, for doing more, and for being the person others can rely on. And this has shaped how you see yourself.

But over time, this mindset can become exhausting, making your worth feel conditional.

If this resonates with you, know that you’re not alone, and that your perspective can change.

Burnout doesn’t happen overnight.

It builds slowly, often over months or even years.

It’s the accumulation of pressure, expectations, and constantly pushing through.

Which is why trying to fix it quickly can feel frustrating.

Because you’re not dealing with one moment…
you’re dealing with a pattern that’s been building over time.

And that kind of change usually starts with understanding it, not rushing to fix it.

I hear this all the time:

“What if I don’t know what to say?”
“What if it’s awkward?”
“What if it doesn’t help?”

Starting therapy can feel uncomfortable, especially if you’re used to handling things on your own.

But you don’t have to have it all figured out before you start.

You just have to show up.

Sometimes the struggle happens right after success.

You reach the goal, and your brain immediately says:

• “I could’ve done better.”
• “It wasn’t a big deal.”
• “I was just lucky.”
• “Okay… what’s next?”

Instead of letting the win land, the goalpost moves again.

Over time, achievement stops being enough, you stop being enough, because your sense of worth becomes tied to performance and the next win. Not about the win right in front of you.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone.

Which one do you catch yourself saying the most?

You can’t out-technique a bad fit.

A therapist can be highly trained, use the best evidence-based approaches, but if the relationship doesn’t feel safe, understood, or collaborative, the work becomes much harder.

Therapy isn’t just about the tools.
It’s about the relationship that allows those tools to actually work.

When people feel safe, understood, and committed to the process, that’s when meaningful change tends to happen.

You don’t book a massage because you’re about to collapse.

You book it because you’ve been tight for so long, that it’s starting to affect how you move.

Therapy can be like that.

A lot of high-achievers don’t think they “need” it.

They’re coping.
They’re productive.
They’re responsible.

But coping isn’t the same as being okay.

And once they start, they say things like:

“I didn’t realize how much I was carrying.”

You don’t have to wait until you’re in crisis to deserve support.

Burnout isn’t always obvious.

Sometimes it’s quietly working you down in the background of your life.

You can still:

- Show up
-Get things done
- Feel exhausted underneath

Carrying it all alone isn’t strength, just like burnout isn’t weakness.

Knowing when to seek support is one of the bravest things you can do.

Don’t forget to save this or share it with someone who should know the signs.

Notes from a recovering perfectionist.

If you needed permission to slow down today, here it is.

You are not a machine.
You are a human being.

Which slide hit you the most?

Who are you when you’re not the “reliable one” ?

While that success has defined you, it’s starting to feel more like a weight than an achievement.

The truth? Your worth shouldn’t be tied to how well you can carry everything.

I’m Naomi, a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC). I help people like you untangle who you are from what you do.

My goal is to help you stay grounded as a human while you navigate being a high-achiever, and all that comes with it.

Ready to untangle?

I’m currently accepting new virtual clients in Ontario.

Sometimes life is like a GPS.

You’re moving forward.
You have a destination in mind.
And suddenly, you’re being rerouted.

Not because you failed.
Not because you chose wrong.
But because something changed.

Setbacks aren’t proof you’re off track they’re often just detours guiding you somewhere new.
Sometimes that place isn’t even somewhere new, but means a different way.

There’s no shame in missing a turn.

Maybe that’s our reminder too.

Pause. Breathe. Adjust. Keep going. 🤍

✨ You’re not behind. You’re rerouting.

What’s something in your life that feels like a reroute right now?

So many of the things we judge ourselves for were once how we survived.

If you’ve been in therapy and still notice old patterns show up, that doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong. It means your nervous system is doing what it learned to do when it needed to keep you safe.

Healing isn’t about erasing who you were. It’s about building enough safety and tools that you don’t have to live in with your old patterns

Progress is often quieter than we expect. And it still counts.

Save this for the days you forget.
