April 7 is World Health Day and this year’s theme, “Together for health. Stand with science,” is not just a moment to reaffirm our commitment to evidence-based care rooted in clinical excellence; it reflects how we approach care every day.
Advancing health relies on a shared commitment across the medical and research communities. And at Medcan, we’re proud to contribute thoughtfully to that collective effort, from the daily impact we make in the lives of our clients to broader clinical advancements.
In just the past year, we’ve advanced proactive health in multiple ways:
✅Published our findings on hs‑Troponin, a key biomarker that can help predict cardiac events before they happen, in the Journal of Cardiology
✅Brought the Galleri® test by GRAIL – the most extensively studied multi‑cancer early detection test – to Canada
✅Evolved our flagship Annual Health Assessment, by adding advanced biomarkers such as the heart indicators Lp(a) and ApoB, along with early indicators of metabolic dysfunction that include fasting insulin, HOMA‑IR, and uric acid
✅Introduced APOE genetic testing, connected with late-onset Alzheimer’s disease and heart health, as a standalone service
✅Advanced conversations and support for evidence-based menopause care by speaking at the National Menopause Show and through our integrated, specialized, physician-led Menopause and Perimenopause Program
✅Continued to support clients with a responsible, integrated approach to GLP‑1 medications with our comprehensive Weight Management Program
✅Shared evidence-based insights in leading HR and employer forums to help further proactive employee health practices and encourage healthier workplaces
In honour of World Health Day, we encourage everyone to prioritize their health, however possible. Move daily, follow healthy eating patterns, get quality sleep, and manage stress. And for a truly evidence-based, personalized approach, assess and monitor your biomarkers – key measurements like cholesterol, glucose levels and muscle mass, that provide objective insight into your current wellness and future risks.
This data can help you identify risks, prioritize action and make informed health decisions. And beyond that, when each of us engages in data‑driven prevention, those actions add up, leading to more collective insights and strengthening health for all.
