🌟 New Podcast Episode: All About Proactive Heart Health Screening 🫀

Cardiovascular disease is one of the most prevalent—and preventable—health conditions in Canada. Nine in ten adults have at least one risk factor, and up to 80% of premature cases can be avoided through early intervention and lifestyle changes.

Often called “the silent killer,” heart disease may not present symptoms until it’s advanced - making early detection critical.

In this episode, Dr. Peter Nord, Chief Medical Officer, and Dr. Beth Abramson, Clinical Director of Cardiology at Medcan, discuss how proactive testing can help identify risk before symptoms appear and set you on a course of action for better health.

👂Tune in to learn:
• Who is at risk of heart disease and cardiac events
• Why identifying risk early is essential - “before the horse has left the barn,” as Dr. Nord puts it
• Which tests are considered gold standard, including newly introduced biomarkers like Lipoprotein(a) and Apolipoprotein B (ApoB), now part of Medcan’s Annual Health Assessment
• Real-world examples of how early detection has improved outcomes

❤️Proactive testing can add life to your years. This episode will help you learn how.

The theme of this year’s CMHA Mental Health Week, May 5-11, is unmasking mental health.

This theme encourages us to take a courageous step to remove the masks we wear to suppress our true selves, including our emotions, personality traits, behaviors, or symptoms. While masks can serve a purpose, they can be detrimental when it comes to supporting our mental wellbeing.

Medcan’s Jennifer Baldachin, MSW, shares, “As a social worker, I've witnessed firsthand how often we wear masks—smiles to hide anxiety, productivity that masks burnout, and silence that conceals pain. The effects of the mask are emotionally and physically draining.”

To help reduce the weight of the mask, Baldachin invites us to start with vulnerability and honesty with ourselves and those we trust. This first step opens the door to self-compassion and helps build connections with others.

Swipe for more insights and suggestions from Baldachin to help navigate this process.

Mental wellbeing is critical to your overall health, so this is an important reminder to take care of it as part of your journey to live well, for life.

🌟 You may have inherited your rosacea—but you don’t have to live with it. 🌟

Did you know that over three million Canadians suffer from rosacea? Often running in families, rosacea typically shows up as persistent redness on the cheeks, nose, forehead, and chin. Triggers like sun exposure, red wine, and spicy foods can make symptoms worse, but early intervention can significantly improve outcomes.

According to the National Rosacea Society, 90% of rosacea patients report lowered self-confidence and self-esteem during flare-ups. The good news is that with the right treatment plan, it is possible to reduce flare-ups and maintain clear, healthy skin. In fact, 76% of patients have found that medical treatment improved their emotional and social well-being.

Book a complimentary skin consultation today with the link below and take the first step towards clear, healthy skin. 🌿
