I don't have a great record of finishing what I start. It's especially true of projects that I decide to build on my own.

There are currently 3 partially finished book drafts, 5 courses in various stages of completion, and 8 different pickles fermenting... but nothing is done. Nothing is ready to share with the world. It's all in process.

It's taken some time to figure this out, but what I have learned about myself is that I do my best when I collaborate.

So when the Changing Work invitation to explore whether it is possible to be friends with co-workers landed in my inbox, I jumped at the chance. Not just because I found the question intriguing. Not just because the mission to change work through conscious leadership resonated with me. Mostly because I wouldn't be doing it alone.

This co-authorship journey has taught me so much. From Lisa Thomas-Tench I learned to strip away the excess so the gold of the story shines true. From Natalie Lapre I learned strategies to amplify the useful messages. From Scott Shute I learned the value of a well placed poem. From Nicholas Whitaker I learned the impact of showing up with vulnerability. From Aimee Serene I learned how to find grace in the process. And from my awesome podmates Bhavani Mantena Christy Sando Faith McGown Wendy McHenry Mary McDowall Lori Kirkland, CCXP Weike lu I learned that writing does not have to be lonely.

This book is rich with lessons about emotional intelligence, psychological safety, the value that arises when leaders model vulnerability, and so much more. It's now available! You can get your copy at the link in my story.

As a third culture kid I haven't always felt South Asian, even though it is the visible identity people first associate with me. I understand multiple Indian languages but speak them like a 4 year old. I can talk to you intelligently about South Asian fashion designers but can't drape a sari to save my life. It looks like I should fit, but it doesn't feel like. It's why I often choose to hang out on the sidelines.

The one place where my cultural heritage does show up is in my wellness practice. Yoga and ayurveda have always been part of my life - from the turmeric and honey throat coat my mom used to make me before school to my grandfather distilling yoga philosophy into idioms a stressed 7 year old could understand.

So when Herleen and I connected to chat about the possibilities of the first ever South Asian Women's Health Conference (thank you Aneil Gokhale for making the connection) it felt like I might have found my people.

Last Sunday, as I sat in workshops with Manmeet Narang whose prompts inspired a new love letter to my body, and heard about the future of health from Zayna Khayat, Ph.D., that sense of belonging deepened. As a former peer s*x educator Bhawan Sekhon (MScPT GCertSH)'s work and the need for it really resonated!

I'm so grateful to Sheila Wijayasinghe MD, CCFP and Sherin Sajan, my fellow panelists, for bringing their medical and pharmacological insights to our conversation about menopause. We went from culturally appropriate symptom solutions to taking values aligned action to improve access to supports, to exploring how to have intergenerational conversations about this big life change.

I'm excited to see how the conversations started, and seeds planted grow into structural and systemic change so that South Asian women can continue to be well, and lead well.

It reminds me that somewhere out there, there are other story seekers, and meaning makers. 📖👀

This weekend I've been curled up with an advance copy of Changing Work's "Are We Friends or Co-workers?". In the 25 stories there have been moments that made me cry, swear, and laugh out loud. Each one is a peak into the messy complexity of how we relate to, and respect each other.

✍🏽Committing a story to the page is hard.

For years, I've hidden my stories of grappling with physical and mental health challenges in the headnotes of blog posts or the introduction of lists of actions — the chronic pain, disordered eating, burnout. They sit in the lived experience shadows, papered over with formal training and quotes from peer reviewed studies.

But the truth is… telling my story is scary.🫣

🤔What will my co-workers think?
🤔 What will my friends think?
🤔 What will my family think?

💥 I'll never know, if I don't share the stories.

If you're in a place where sharing feels scary, let me just say — it's worth exploring the edge of that fear.

Mother's Day can be sticky for many reasons - not the least because of the capitalist appropriation of what was supposed to be a day to celebrate your maternal presence - whether or not that's the person who birthed you.

I just finished reading Shonda Rimes' Year of Yes (reading prep for my sabbatical) and this description of motherhood reminded me so much of my mom who kept her executive assistant role to the COO of a multinational company until she wanted to move on to other things, who is a certified nail technician because she loved doing her own nails, who learned how to manage a small business though experiential learning because the opportunity arose.

"Part of what’s important about motherhood is that you be happy. Your kids need to see a happy, fulfilled mother. The worst thing you can do is provide your children with an unhappy, put-upon, bitter self. If I’m pursuing my goals, my kids are seeing me at my best. I am filled up, I am happy, I am not feeling empty, depleted, and therefore resentful about the fact that I’m missing out. As big of a blessing as they are, I don’t want them to feel like I’ve sacrificed"

I'm so grateful to have had her example of leaning into joy, and being aware of cultural practices that support health and wellbeing - including through the big changes of life. I'm grateful that I got to witness her approach to big life changes, like menopause, which she made clear wasn't an illness, a disease, or something negative to be managed. Instead, it was a time to lean further into joy, to say no to what depletes you, to cut ties with what you resent. I'm grateful she blazed that trail, so I have a sense of the road ahead.

If you want to hear more about this approach to menopause, join me and the at where I'll be sharing space with and Sherin Sajan in a conversation moderated by

As an anxious, lonely little human, stories were a refuge from a challenging world. They became a space to rest, and to imagine what it would be like if life was different.

It wasn't until I started studying narrative medicine at medicine that I really grasped how storytelling heals individuals and unites communities — one truth, one voice at a time.

I get to facilitate some of that healing through narrative medicine sessions and see the impact in real time. It's why I'm proud to be part of mission as we launch Fragments: Stories that Heal, a campaign that amplifies lived experience in all its rawness and truth. Mental health is complex. These stories help us see each other more fully.

Here are 3 ways you can support:
1️⃣Join the movement — Share your story or refer a storyteller at weareunsinkable.com
2️⃣Bring Unsinkable @ Work to your organization — Help create safer, more connected workplaces
3️⃣Show your support — Share the campaign, tag , visit the Dundas Square billboard if you’re in Toronto, or snag some fantastic
X Unsinkable limited edition conversation starters like this great tote. The link to get them is in the comments.

Let’s shift the narrative together.

I had so much fun chatting with Shelly Dhamija about our chapters in the upcoming Changing Work book "Are We Friends or Co-Workers?". Writing can often feel like a solo mission so it was heartening to hear from both Shelly and Wainwright Yu about their author journeys, lessons learned, and insights on the complex process of making friends as adults. My favourite learning: how much Shelly and my mom have in common! Watch our chat (link in the comments) to learn why my door will always be open if she decides to drop in.

What is there to do when it seems like all the dominoes are being lined up, like your team is conspiring to create a workplace so inhospitable that the only choice is to quit?

Retreat.

It doesn’t mean you have to abandon ship. Instead consider actively choosing rest. Yoga nidra is a great way to access it when sleep isn’t possible. My latest substack post has an embedded practice for you to try! Tap the substack link in my bio to access it.

Do you think writing is a solitary, and often lonely experience? I did.

But the truth? It's a shared adventure with lots of amazing people on the journey!

In corporate communications, event marketing, and media relations, success doesn’t come from going it alone and mastering every aspect of the work.

You reach hearts and change minds by collaborating with talented professionals, being accountable for your end of the work, and clearly communicating even when things are hard or sliding off track.

- The first speech I wrote? My manager edited 36 versions before it was ready to go.
- That city wide bakesale that raised $30,000.00? Impossible without my co-planner.
- My first book project to change workplace culture? Full of incredibly supportive fellow writers and an amazing editor.

If you see the goal, understand the obstacles, and choose to co-create with a team that shares your values, you’re already ahead of the game.

The best writers and change makers weren’t born that way. They have been on their own journeys of growth, and have peer mentors and teachers who support their development too.

So, whether it’s writing a chapter that changes minds, delivering a presentation that inspires hearts, or leading a team in a sustainable way of working, remember: Success is NOT a solo mission. It’s a series of small, collaborative steps. Do you agree?

Thank you for this great announcement graphic ! I'm excited for my words to join those of so many others as we explore whether it is truly possible to make friends at work!

FYI: I’m a chapter author of the book, titled Are We Friends or Coworkers? Exploring Relationships at Work which drops on May 30th. My chapter is about how listening deeply to the people around me, leaning into shared experience and tapping into the genuine pleasure that comes from connecting with and creating meaningful relationships by supporting others helped me beat burnout.
