Canada has a great benefits system. It is called Extended Insurance and it makes services that are not covered by the public, free healthcare system accessible as an employer-provided benefit. It specifically covers preventive, alternative, Eastern, Western, and mainstream healthcare services, treatments, and medical aids.
Most employees have some kind of Extended Insurance package, which allows the spouse, common-law partner, and children up to age 24 to also be eligible for this benefit. Each family member has a separate, specific amount they can spend.
Let me give you an example: The father's insurance covers $1,000 for massage therapy for the father, $1,000 for the mother, and $1,000 for the child. Plus, the mother also has insurance, which covers an additional $500 per person. So, annually, that is $1,500 per person for massage (or chiropractor, acupuncture, osteopathy).
We receive separate coverage for naturopathy, so our homeopathic doctors and herbal products are also covered by the insurance.
Extended insurance also covers psychological, psychotherapy, s*x therapy, and group therapy services, with separate coverage for each family member. To give a personal example, we can each spend $1,500 combined on psychology, psychotherapy, social work, and counseling, plus an additional $500 each for psychology, $500 for psychotherapy, and $500 for social worker consultations.
Police officers, for example, receive $10,000 annually for mental health services.
The downside is that the amount not used by the end of the year is lost and cannot be carried over to the following year. As the end of the year approaches, it is worth checking to see if you have any remaining funds and, if you need any service, you can use them up.
Most insurance companies cover psychotherapy, s*x, couple, and group therapy, so the methods I offer are also accessible through Extended Insurance (Sun Life, Manulife, Greenshield, Canada Life, Manion, Blue Cross...).
New services include Holistic Psychotherapy, Energy Medicine, Hypnotherapy, Access Bars, and Hypnotherapy for Couples.
Both in-person (Toronto, North York) and virtual sessions are available.
