Your local Annex Pilates Studio - modern with a twist of industrial style; our studio is located in the historic Ford building.

In 1998, Margot opened our Dupont studio doors, when there Pilates - when there were few studios in the city and before Pilates was widely known. Since then, we’ve never left. After 3 expansion renovations and countless hours of movement, this space holds decades of strength, growth, and community. 🎉

Cheers to entering into 28 years and here’s to many more Pilates classes, sessions and inspiring teachers. 💫

The Rolling Back series on the long box is magic for core strength and spinal mobility.✨ Margot designed this mini flow to condition hips, spine and shoulders in sequence with an emphasis on a neutral spine or slight flexion. The limb motions challenge the core and coordination simultaneously, building strength in the centre of the body. ❤️‍🔥

Today’s exercise is a shoulder exercise for a very specific muscle called the subscapularis. It’s deep inside the shoulder and works to keep the arm bone securely in the shoulder socket.

Slide your left hand and forearm across your low back. Place your right fingertips at the front of your left shoulder and push back slightly. Begin by lifting your left arm away from your back and then lowering back down, watching that your elbow does not go out to the side.

Repeat the simple backward and forward motion 8-10 times and then drop your arm by your side. After this exercise, your shoulders should feel set back, dropped and more relaxed.

One thing to keep in mind is to make sure that you don’t feel the sensation across the front of the shoulder, the work should be in the back, with a slight stretch through the front.

The message that exercise and movement are good for health is getting through. 🌟 Movement keeps our hearts, bodies, and minds healthy and strong. 💪 In a recent New York Times article, medical professionals rated daily movement as the top ingredient for health and wellbeing.

But how much is enough? 🤔 We dove into the topic recently and wanted to share recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO).

Ideally, all adults should get 150 – 300 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity each week. Additionally, two or more days should include strength/resistance training of major muscle groups. 💪 It might seem like a lot at first glance, but once activity becomes part of your weekly routine, especially once you feel the benefits, making daily movement a habit is easy.

If you have yet to try our live online or recorded classes, there’s no time like now. You will build strength, improve bone health, sharpen your brainpower, and destress. 😌

And the best part? 🎉 You can choose the time and join in from the comfort of your home. Those 150-300 minutes of physical activity are suddenly more achievable.

We hope you’ll join us over the next four months and discover how beneficial exercise is for your health and wellbeing. 🫶
