Falstaff Community Peace Garden

Falstaff Community Peace Garden The Falstaff Community Peace Garden is one of the numerous organic gardens that Afri-Can FoodBasket has helped develop to foster its food security mission.

Falstaff Community Peace Garden was initiated by resident Beverly Scarlett in partnership with Afri-Can FoodBasket (AFB) and Toronto Community Housing Corporation with the support of other tenants. Through community-based organic farming projects Afri-Can FoodBasket (AFB) is committed to meeting the nutrition, health and employment needs of members of the African Canadian community with culturall

y appropriate foods, in particular, those who are economically and socially vulnerable. The organization's mission is to facilitate, support and encourage youth, new immigrants and a new generation of farmers to develop food security through locally-based urban ecological agricultural enterprises. Falstaff Community Peace Garden incorporates Afri-Can FoodBasket's concept of community organic farming; youth engagement and enterprise to pursue food security. Beverly Scarlett has gone far in establishing the foundation of the garden while Garden Coordinator, Erica Lewis, along with other Falstaff tenant gardeners continue to build on this foundation and engage the entire Falstaff and surrounding community in food security.
