Colder weather is coming! The fall and winter seasons can represent more challenging times for arthritic horses with regard to their comfort and mobility. However, we CAN fight back against the ravages of equine osteoarthritis! The wisest strategy is multifactorial - appropriate level of exercise, proper nutrition, weight management, metabolic health optimization, and yes, the use of select pharmaceutical interventions. Most of us are well aware of helpful NSAID anti-inflammatory medications like firocoxib (e.g., Previcox, PrevEquine) and even old-school phenylbutazone. However, chondroprotective medications such as hyaluronic acid (e.g., Legend) and polysulfated glycosaminoglycans (e.g., Adequan) can also be valuable allies in the battle against arthritis. If your horse suffers from arthritis, please don’t wait until the condition greatly worsens before doing something. Be proactive and speak to your vet about the best approach to improve the comfort and quality of your horse’s life!

That’s right, after some downtime for maintenance and upgrades to my dental set-up, I’m back in action again! My new set-up consists of a more streamlined, user-friendly cart, and three newer hand pieces. For patient comfort, my generously padded head rest, infinitely adjustable speculum, and cooling fans return to action as well. And more upgrades are on the way! For over 24 years, my goal has been to provide high-quality dental care for horses, with focuses on careful expertise, continuing education, and patient comfort.
