We’d like to extend a very warm welcome to our newest team member, Physiotherapist Urvashi Krishnan!
Urvashi has nearly 20 years of experience working on a variety of conditions, from sports injuries and orthopaedic issues to neurological conditions. She is also a registered pelvic floor physiotherapist specializing in pelvic health and pre- and post-partum (pregnancy) conditions. Urvashi will be in the clinic Tuesday, Thursday and Friday - feel free to stop by, say hello and welcome her to the Wellington family!

Hey neighbours!

Just a quick public service announcement regarding something that comes up in clinic quite frequently. We have several different types of practitioners that use acupuncture in treatment and occasionally patients’ insurance claims can be denied if claimed improperly. Given that we’ve got a new acupuncturist joining the team it seemed appropriate to provide a little extra information!

“Acupuncturist” vs. “Acupuncture provider”: What’s the difference!?

Acupuncture is acupuncture, right? Well, perhaps (or perhaps not!), but the credentials of the professional providing the treatment are very important too! In Ontario, a “registered acupuncturist” is a healthcare professional that belongs to a specific regulatory body and, thus, is eligible to claim acupuncture benefits under extended health insurance plans. On the other hand, an “acupuncture provider” is a healthcare professional that has a primary designation (ie. Chiropractor, Physiotherapist, Massage Therapist, etc) that has taken extra training to be able to use acupuncture as an alternate or complimentary form of treatment. These practitioners are legally allowed to perform acupuncture but are typically NOT eligible to claim acupuncture benefits - they must use benefits under their specific professional designation (ie. Chiropractic, Physiotherapy, Massage Therapy, etc).
