In long-term care, timely and accurate documentation plays a critical role in supporting resident-centred care—and Isabel & Arthur Meighen Manor is exploring new ways to strengthen it.

Isabel & Arthur Meighen Manor is a not-for-profit charitable organization specializing in long-term care and assisted living. With support from our 2025 Connected Care Innovation Grant, the organization is implementing an AI-powered voice solution that captures real-time clinical notes and enables structured documentation using natural language processing.

This initiative will support improved access to resident data, smoother care transitions through automated documentation, and stronger clinical decision-making powered by AI-generated insights—helping to advance more connected care in long-term care environments.

Looking back at the 2025 Infoway Partnership Conference, a prominent theme was how AI and innovative technology are driving progress in Connected Care.

Across several sessions, speakers explored how AI is moving from promise to practice. This included spotlighting the adoption of innovative programs across Canada, such as our AI Scribe Program, hearing from frontline providers on how AI is improving connection and collaboration, and learning how Canada’s Joint AI Table is shaping a pan-Canadian approach to responsible, scalable AI in healthcare.

Conversations also emphasized the importance of strong partnerships between research, healthcare, and industry, and how real-world trials and shared data platforms are helping turn innovation into measurable impact.

As we share a few moments from those conversations, we’re also looking ahead. AI and innovative technology will once again be a key focus at the 2026 Infoway Partnership Conference, as we continue to explore how emerging technologies can be responsibly scaled, integrated, and used to drive meaningful impact across Canada’s health system.

Every patient visit matters—and so does the experience of the clinician delivering that care. In December alone, AI tools through our AI Scribe Program supported more than 1 million clinical encounters across the country.

That’s over a million moments where primary care clinicians could spend less time on documentation and more time with their patients. As a result, 91% of users report a lower cognitive load, with less typing, multitasking, and mental fatigue.

Through the AI Scribe Program, we are helping reduce strain behind the scenes—because when clinicians are supported, care becomes more present, more human, and more sustainable.

We’re continuing our spotlight on recipients of the 2025 Connected Care Innovation Grant. Today we’re pleased to feature EssentialMD, a community primary care clinic in North Simcoe, Ontario, led by family physician Dr. Byron Song.

With support from our 2025 Connected Care Innovation Grant, EssentialMD is implementing Master Chart, an AI-powered medical document processing tool. The solution transforms scanned medical charts from various sources and formats into standardized, digital patient health records.

This project will support more comprehensive access to patient health information at the point of care, strengthen care coordination, and contribute to standardized patient summaries—while preserving complete medical histories.

Today, we saw the introduction of Bill S-5, the Connected Care for Canadians Act. We welcome this legislation, and we appreciate the leadership of Government of Canada and Minister Marjorie Michel in advancing policies that strengthen patient safety, improve access to health information, and support secure, interoperable health data exchange across the country.

The legislation also recognizes that trusted health data exchange, modern digital standards, and secure information-sharing practices are foundational to system sustainability and improved patient outcomes. Our Connected Care work directly supports these objectives by advancing secure, national approaches to health information sharing.

We look forward to continuing our work with governments, health system partners, industry, and other leaders and collaborators to help translate this legislative direction into meaningful, practical progress for Connected Care across Canada.
