Change is inevitable. Progress is a choice. ✨

There is something unique about the New Year that tends to inspire us. A new beginning provides a fresh calendar giving us a fresh start.

We often think of the New Year as an opportunity to create a new perspective, new actions, new results, new accomplishments, and even new found inner peace.

We need more than wishes to create lasting change.

Why not actively participate in the change that you are after, so we can contribute with thoughtfulness, have the patience to show empathy and listen fully, and love fiercely and compassionately.

If you’re looking for support with achieving your health and wellness goals this year, we’ve got you.

Reach out to our office through our link in bio to schedule an appointment with one of our practitioners and make 2023 the year you resolve your resolutions!

'Tis the season to celebrate.

It can also be a time of over indulgence.

Too much food, too much sugar, and too much to drink.

To save your liver this holiday season we’ve put together a list of our favourite natural hangover remedies to help detox your liver.

NAC: helps your body to manufacture more glutathione, helping your liver and your body to detoxify.

Milk Thistle: helps your body to clear toxins, decrease liver inflammation and prevents glutathione depletion.

B Complex: B vitamins are required for numerous metabolic and cellular processes in the body.

Turmeric or curcumin: Shown to be liver protective with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory actions.

Hangover Cure IV – Enjoy a hydrating and detoxing drip at Soma and Soul with glutathione, b-vitamins and electrolytes to support your liver and hangover symptoms. It is best to have this IV the following day.

Call our office to set up an initial assessment appointment before receiving vitamin drips.

All the above recommendations can be taken before going out and the morning after to help alleviate the pains of a hangover.

With your liver detoxification supports, make sure you stay hydrated the night of partying and the following day.

Save this post to prep for your next party.

Navigating the holiday feast with IBS? We've got your back! 🙌

Don’t let IBS get in the way of your holiday meals this year. These are our favourite ways to beat uncomfortable bloating 🎈, *ah hem* gas 💨, and digestive discomfort:

1. Eat Mindfully: Savor each bite and chew slowly (30-40 times). It helps digestion and prevents overindulging
2. Turkey Time: Lean protein like turkey is gentle on the stomach. Skip the heavy gravy.
3. Safe Sides: Fill your plate with IBS-friendly sides like roasted veggies and avoid high FODMAP foods
4. Alcohol Awareness: Limit alcohol, as it can irritate your digestive system. Opt for mocktails (we have some great recipes on our blog) or ginger tea.
5. Digestive Enzymes: Consider taking one before your meal. A glass of lemon water before dinner can also help.

If you want to get to the bottom of your digestive issues, our team is here to help. Head to our link in bio to set up a consultation and start your healing journey.

Exhausted from all the holiday things? Feeling you just can’t anymore?

Here are four quick and simple food tips to help you get through the holidays:

1. Eat 3 meals/day: Skipping meals increases cortisol (stress hormone) production and might leave you feeling more anxious and exhausted, which worsens burnout. Remember, coffee does not count as breakfast.

2. Eat protein and veggies at each meal: Start with a couple of bites of your protein first before you eat anything else on your plate. This will anchor your blood sugar, helping to keep your energy stable throughout the day.

3. Hydrate: Feeling exhausted all the time has us opting for caffeine instead of the good ol’ fashioned water. Your brain, cells, and organs need hydration to produce proper energy.

4. Don’t skip the carbs: Cutting carbs can cause your cortisol and ovulation hormones to be affected, leaving your body feeling more stressed and hormonally out of whack. Select your carbs mindfully choosing fibrous and dark-coloured grains such as whole wheat, rye and brown rice. If you are gluten free, try quinoa, sweet potatoes, fruit, and squash or pumpkin

Remember, a little goes a long way. Baby steps are still steps. Healing ourselves takes patience and time.

If you are struggling to take care of yourself or do not know where to start, reach out to our office to connect with a practitioner who can help you begin your healing journey.

Not saying that massage therapy can fix everything, but it can make things better.

Indulge in the ultimate act of self-care. Massage therapy isn't just a luxury; it's a journey to total well-being. Here's why:

Stress Relief: Melt away the day's stress, tension, and worries. Massage promotes relaxation, reducing cortisol levels, and leaving you with a sense of calm.

Muscle Relaxation: Say goodbye to those knots and tight muscles. Our skilled therapists work their magic to release muscle tension, improving flexibility and mobility.

Pain Management: Whether it's chronic pain, headaches, or post-workout soreness, massage therapy can provide relief and enhance your body's natural healing abilities.

Improved Sleep: Experience better sleep quality as massage triggers the release of serotonin, promoting restful nights and improved sleep patterns.

Enhanced Circulation: Stimulate blood flow and lymphatic drainage, aiding in the delivery of nutrients and oxygen to your cells while removing toxins.

Mental Clarity: Clear your mind and boost mental clarity. Massage can improve focus, concentration, and overall cognitive function.

Immune Support: Regular massage therapy can boost your immune system by reducing stress and promoting relaxation.

Prioritize self-care and let healing touch be your guide to a happier, healthier you. It's not just a massage; it's a journey to self-discovery and well-being.

Fuel your health by eating the rainbow. 🌈

In the past, phytonutrients' main benefit was being anti-cancerous but new research is showing that phytonutrients are responsible for a lot more.

Consuming a diverse range of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and plant-based foods is an excellent way to incorporate a wide variety of phytonutrients into your diet.

These compounds can help protect cells from oxidative damage, reduce inflammation, and contribute to overall health and well-being.

If you’re looking for support to fuel your health and make meal planning easier Sean and Amy can help you and your family feel your best. Head to our link in bio to schedule a consultation with a holistic nutritionist.

Are you feeling overwhelmed by a never-ending to-do list?

Often, we say yes to people and requests because we want to be helpful or not disappoint others.

If you’re feeling fatigue and cynicism starting to creep in it might be a sign you need to slow down.

Saying no to some things can mean saying yes to yourself.

Here are a few phrases that can help when it’s hard to say no:

No, I’m not able to do that.

What you are asking me to do doesn’t feel in alignment with my vision or plan.

No, I’m not available now.

No, I can’t make it but thank you for the invitation.

Or sometimes a simple No is all that is required.

Saying no is part of learning to set healthy boundaries.

If you struggle with saying no, setting boundaries or slowing down, we can help.

Our therapists are here to support you and help you learn to set healthy boundaries and improve your relationship with others and yourself.

Looking for a way to get a better understanding of your current health status?

Routine bloodwork is a valuable indicator of physiological health markers and helps you proactively catch disease before it begins.

This information provides great insight into your current health status. We’ll examine it to determine and navigate the best mode of natural treatment for you.

While some of these tests (such as vitamin D) are no longer covered by OHIP, most health insurance benefits will cover the cost. With only a month and a half left in the year this is a great way to take advantage of your benefits.

To get a requisition, call our office at 416.691.2525 to schedule a consultation with one of our practitioners.

Looking for a natural way to keep your Vitamin D levels up?

With fewer hours of daylight, getting enough of the sunshine vitamin can be a bit challenging.

One way to ward off the winter blues and support your immunity is to ensure you’re consuming adequate Vitamin D in your diet.

The richest source of vitamin D is in omega friendly foods, such as salmon, tuna, sardines, rainbow trout, fish oils, fortified mild and eggs.

If you a vegan/vegetarian, you are even more
prone to being deficient than the average Canadian who eats fish and eggs, so you likely require supplementation. Just remember to have your level checked first so you know how much to take.

If you want to test your levels, call our office at 416.691.2525 to schedule a consultation with one of our practitioners.

With the falling back of the clocks, the daylight hours shorten and the chilly temperatures roll in you might also notice that your mood tinting gloomy.

The concept of behaviour, psychology, cravings, weight changes, sleep, and energy having seasonal rhythms has been observed for centuries.

With the lessening hours of sunlight, it is thought that brain chemicals that impact feeling happy and sleeping well are disrupted, such as serotonin and melatonin.

Vitamin D deficiencies, which increase with the shorter days of sunshine, have also been thought to contribute to the winter blues.

Want to talk to about your mood changes? Call our office to schedule a discovery call with Tristan or Sarah.

We’ve all been there 💙

Let’s talk about stress for a minute. While small amounts of stress can be helpful – it motivates us, keeps us alert and helps us excel and achieve more – too much stress can put us on a path to burnout.

If your responsibilities are feeling overwhelming, you feel as though you have no control over your life and you lack close supportive relationships, stress can start to feel unmanageable.

Therapy can provide a safe, trusting environment to help you feel seen, heard and supported. They can also help you develop healthy coping mechanisms for managing stress and take care of yourself.

If you would like someone to talk to and help you wade through life’s challenges, make an appointment with Tristan or Sarah. You can go hand in hand through this journey together.

Do I need to take my vitamins with food? How do I know if I’m taking enough?

When it comes to certain vitamins, like fat-soluble vitamin D, it’s always a good idea to check your levels.

Fatty vitamins, such as vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E and vitamin K need to be taken with care because taking too much can cause toxicity.

Excessive amounts of vitamin D can cause a build-up of calcium in your blood, leading to nausea, vomiting, weakness, and frequent urination. The increase of calcium can also lead to kidney and bone pain and even cause the formation of kidney stones.

Your ND can request a simple blood test to check your vitamin D-25 hydroxy status and make the appropriate dosing recommendations.

Want to ensure you’re taking the right dosage of vitamins and supplements? Call our office to make an appointment and get a requisition for blood work. We can help you make informed decisions about your health and wellness.

Is it time to check your vitamin D levels?

Although this vitamin has been known for strengthening bones, vitamin D is used to ward off infections, heal your immunity, and fight cancer.

Also known as the sunshine vitamin, Vitamin was historically used to treat infections such as tuberculosis before the time of antibiotics.

How much should you be taking? A blood test is a simple way to accurately know how much you have and how much you should be taking. Tip: if you take too much Vitamin D you can reach toxic levels.

If you want the precise vitamins for you and your family through this fall season, please come and see us. Call our clinic at 416.691.2525 to make your appointment.
