The artists in Grade 2 recently started creating a piece of collaborative abstract art, using a large piece of cardboard as the surface and acrylic paint as their medium. 🎨
According to Junior School Art Teacher Ms Chisholm, abstract collaborative artwork offers many benefits for our primary students by encouraging students to explore colours, shapes, and ideas without fear of making mistakes. “Working together builds teamwork, communication, and social skills as students share materials and respect each other’s contributions. This process also builds a sense of community and belonging, as every child’s input is valued in the final piece. Additionally, abstract art promotes problem-solving and critical thinking since students must decide how to combine different elements and ideas. This process boosts confidence and pride, as our young artists see what they can accomplish together.”
