Black Lotus Deshawna Dookie (she/her) is the founder of Black Lotus Mental Wellness. Due to Covid-19, all services are being offered virtually until further notice.

Trauma-informed yoga and mental health care services for BIPOC and marginalized groups/individuals, dealing with mental distress as a result of poverty, addictions, institutional racism and other trauma related events. She is a Trauma Informed Therapist, Social Worker and Yoga Instructor based in Toronto, ON. Black Lotus Mental Wellness services include Counselling, Private Yoga Sessions, Small Group Yoga, and Workshop and Speaking Engagements. All services are done from an anti-oppressive and trauma informed framework in order to empower BIPOC (black, indigenous, people of colour) individuals living with trauma. Our minds hold onto memories, sometimes in clear detail, sometimes in loops that feel impossible to escape. According to Yoga Sutra 1.11, memory is simply the mind replaying past experiences… but when those memories are painful, it can feel like you’re reliving the moment all over again.

If your mind is hyper-detailed, sticky, or replaying old stories on repeat, nothing is wrong with you. This is how a sensitive, aware mind tries to protect you.

Healing doesn’t mean erasing the past.
It means changing your relationship to it.
