Do you p*e when you laugh or often feel like you won't make it to the toilet on time? This sounds like urinary incontinence.

Urinary incontinence is an undesired leakage of urine and the loss of bladder control, which is a common problem that affects both men and women. According to the American Urological Association 1/4 to 1/3 of men and women in the US experience urinary incontinence. It's also an uncomfortable topic for most, despite it being a widespread condition.

So why does it happen? There are different types of urinary incontinence. These four types include:

1. Stress incontinence
Stress incontinence is urinating when putting pressure on bladder by coughing, sneezing, exercising, laughing, or lifting something heavy. Those who are pregnant may also experience persistent urinarv incontinence due to hormonal changes and the growing weight of the baby, which can lead to stress incontinence.

2. Urge incontinence
Urge incontinence is having an intense urge to urinate followed by involuntary loss of urine. This includes urinating throughout the night, overflowing continence, having frequent dribbling of urine because of the bladder that doesn't empty completely.

3. Functional incontinence
Functional incontinence is a phsical or mental impairment that prevents vou to be able to get to the toilet on time. For example, if you have arthritis or you're struggling with an injury, you can't move as quickly as you want to.

4. Mixed incontinence
Experiencing more than one type of incontinence. From all the incontinence types l've listed, there's a long list of factors that can cause incontinence, which includes childbirth. Abdominal weakness, diabetes, pregnancy, menopause, and more.

Can I improve my scar tissue after birth?

So if you’ve given birth, you may have scar tissue from a C section, episiotomy scar, or scarring from a 1st-3rd degree tear. Scar tissue causes fascial restriction, which means it can adhere to the surrounding soft tissue and organs. This will often cause pain, poor extensibility, and decreased strength in the area.

What can you do? Actually, back in the day, I had an episiotomy and a tear, as i birthed my daughter. Nobody told me what I should do about the subsequent stitching and healing of the tear.

Today I would recommend seeing a pelvic physical therapist! Physical therapy can help with scar tissue mobility for C-section scar, episiotomy scar, or scarring from a 1st-3rd degree tear.

You should wait until 6 weeks postpartum to start massaging or mobilizing your scar tissue. I would also recommend using a chemical-free, 100% all natural lubricant or moisturizer. You do not want to use something that’s going to disrupt your hormones when it’s absorbed through your skin, or something that will change the sensitive pH balance.

What's the best diet for menopause bloating?

Menopause bloating is uncomfortable and is caused by fluctuations in your hormone levels. Bloating is a common symptom of menopause, but there are certain dietary changes that can help alleviate these symptoms. Here's some tips for the best diet for menopause bloating.

1. Reduce your intake of salt. 🧂
Consuming too much salt can cause water retention, which can lead to that bloating. Try to limit your intake of process and packaged foods because they're high in salt.

2. Increase your intake of fiber. 🌱
Eating foods high in fiber can promote regular bowel movements and reduce your bloating. Include plenty of fruits and vegetables in your diet.

3. Drink plenty of water. 💦
Staying hydrated can help prevent Constipation and reduce bloating. Aim for at least 8 glasses of water per day.

4. Avoid carbonated beverages. 🥤
Carbonated drinks can contribute to bloating, so it's best to avoid them if you're experiencing menopause related bloating.

5. Limit your intake of alcohol & caffeine. 🍷
Both of these can cause dehydration and contribute to your bloating, so it's best to consume them in moderation or avoid them altogether.

6. Add probiotics to your diet. ⚡
Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that can help promote digestive health and reduce bloating. Consider incorporating probiotic rich foods such as keffir or fermented vegetables like kimchi in your diet.

7. Stay away from sugar. 🍭
Actually, that's one of the most important ones for me because sugar. Has a impact on your blood sugar. And your blood sugar spiking and dropping is going to cause cravings and then you might grab for something that's not good for you.

How will menopause affect my s*x drive?

S*x drive is usually affected because of the decrease in hormone production in this transition. Estrogen, progesterone, testosterone are declining and that affects the libido. However, some women, the lucky ones, say they have an increased s*x drive during this time!

So what can we do for those who have a decrease so you can take a look at your lifestyle. And make some positive changes.
For instance, look at your diet. Make sure you have a clean diet and make sure you have regular exercises. This is so important for testosterone production. And make sure you get plenty of rest to restore your body during this transition that has such a toll, takes such a toll on your body.

You can talk to your partner about these physiological changes that you're experiencing and how you know your drive is kind of decreasing and maybe make them understand that this is inevitable and there are things you can do. So one of the things you can do is take hormones and there's if you speak to a menopause specialist, maybe they can guide you on the best option for you.

Are you going through menopause and is s*x painful? 😰

S*x was never painful before… it always felt good, and now I don't even wanna think about it. 😣

So what's going on here? The vaginal lining first is thinner and more prone to micro tears, and this is because we're losing hormones such as estrogen.

What can you do about this? The quick, easy answer is hormone replacement therapy (HRT), biodentical hormones, or phytoestrogens. This will help boost your estrogen again and support this tissue that is being aggravated and thereby make it less painful and less susceptible to this harshness.

Second is you can an all natural vaginal moisturizer. There's a lot of products out there on the market, but you want to make sure that you go for one that's are 100% natural and chemical free, because this is a transition in your life where your hormones are declining and you don't wanna have anything that's going to disrupt your hormones, or that is toxic to your system during this time.

And lastly, as weird as it sounds, actually having s*x is the best thing to do. You know the saying, use it or lose it - that applies here. When you have s*x, you are getting blood flow to that region and to the tissues, and that's going to keep the tissues healthy and you're also getting an energy flow there, which is going to be very helpful.

Many women experience sleep problems during perimenopause and menopause. Either they can't fall asleep or they wake up from sleep and can't get back to sleep at say, three or four in the morning. And this is a real bummer.

So how does this happen? Hormone decline is the big culprit. During perimenopause, your ovaries begin producing lesser amounts of your key hormones. This includes estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. As these hormone levels fall symptoms of menopause increase like insomnia and night sweats, which might be also contributing to the loss of sleep. Sleep disturbances during the menopause transition are also often related to hot flashes and night sweats.

You may have experienced rage if you're going through menopause, the slightest thing can set it off, and you might just snap at someone who totally didn't mean to set you off.

This is a common symptom that can be caused by fluctuating hormones and can be distressing for both the person experiencing it and for all of those around them. Here's some of the best things you can do to help alleviate menopausal rage.

1. Identify your triggers.
You can keep track of the situations or events that tend to trigger your feelings of rage. Maybe there's some unresolved issues in your relationship. Understand these triggers and then help avoid them or prepare yourself to respond more calmly when they occur.

2. Practice relaxation techniques.
Techniques like meditation, deep breathing, and yoga. These can help reduce stress and promote relaxation. And can help you alleviate the menopausal rage.

3. Exercise regularly.
Regular exercise can help reduce stress and promote overall physical and mental health.

4. Talk to your healthcare provider.
Your healthcare provider may recommend hormone therapy or other treatments to alleviate your menopausal symptoms, including rage.

5. Seek support.
Talk with friends, family members, your partner, or a mental health professional who can provide the emotional support and help you manage your menopausal rage.

6. Consider counselling or therapy.
Counselling or therapy can help you learn techniques to manage feelings of anger. And develop coping strategies for dealing with the menopausal rage.

So for myself, I had these bouts where I was snapping at my partner for a really slight, unprovoked phrase. Or maybe my partner woke me up accidentally at night and sleep was vital for me and I just explode. So it's really super important to get the help you need.

For me, that was getting some hormone therapy. And hormone supplementations, because your hormones are going down across the board is super important. And it's not that you're lacking anything. Every woman is going through this downturn of hormones and a little of the hormone supplementation can help a lot.

Did you know that around 75-85% of women during perimenopause and postmenopause experience night sweats?

Night sweats are caused by declining hormone levels which can affect the part of the brain that controls body temperature, the hypothalamus. The body becomes confused and incorrectly identifies a rise in temperature, which dilates blood vessels and causes sweat breakouts. Waking up suddenly can cause adrenaline to surge, making it difficult to get back to sleep once you’ve woken up.

Am I too young for menopause? 💭

Menopause is a different journey for every woman. The average age of menopause is 52, and you're not too young if you're in your thirties, mid thirties, forties, you could already be starting to have perimenopause symptoms. So the average age of 52 is actually for when menopause hits, and that means you've been a year without your period.

And anything after that is post-menopause. So peri-menopause can hit any time and the symptoms vary, and the duration of that period can last from one to 10 years.

05/14/2023

As you go through menopause, your moods can rapidly change. One minute you're up and the next minute you're down. So why does this happen? As your ovaries produce less of these hormones, your body and brain may experience changes that relate to your mood.

Estrogen helps to regulate several hormones which have mood boosting properties. These include serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. Estrogen also helps to support certain types of brain functioning, such as cognition. When estrogen levels change, your mood may change with it.

The decrease in estrogen can also cause some women to have occasional episodes of forgetfulness or brain fog, which can be super frustrating and negatively affect your mood. Menopause and perimenopause can also create physical changes that may negatively affect your mood. These include trouble sleeping and issues with intimacy. Many women also experience anxiety about aging and stress about the future, which can upset and create mood swings.
