What we have is a result of what we have built.
What we have built is because of what we have normalized .

Greed, otherness, hate , exploitations, inequality, injustice are all things we have normalized .

Our collective nervous system has been wired to either perpetuate it or protect ourselves from it (which in another way perpetuates it, but that’s a different post )

To change it we have to re-wire our nervous system to a different norm in order for the new norm to actually stick and become a new reality , not just a protest on the fringes

What do you think ?

There is a way, a process to do this . Changing the systems requires changing what our nervous systems perceive as the norm

It feels like things are shifting .. so here are some thoughts to get us through and reflect on

As Calle 13 says in one of their songs “si quieres un cambio verdadero pues camina distinto” If you want a real change, well you gotta walk differently

I have spent many many years supporting individuals until I got so tired of the feeling of constantly putting out fires (or supporting them in doing that ). That was when I said “we need to change the very environment which keeps making us sick “

In today’s world for so many people who experience systemic oppression there is no post traumatic point. The trauma continues daily , when the catalyst of it exists and ceases to exist

As someone who has lived with present war trauma and intergenerational lingering war traumas i don’t believe in the idea of “post trauma”. This would mean that the environment has changed and is now focused on healing , or very last no harm

That is not the case in our world. Think to our workplaces . They are not environments that feel safe for so many people . They are at times the very sites that inflict hate, harm, violence and oppression onto people

I support companies in employee well-being but not through programs that put all the pressure on the employees to change / adapt , but rather a fully integrated system approach where both the environment and the way people interact with it and with each other has to be transformed

This is my mission. A space where our nervous systems can breathe, can connect with each other, can dream and build together, can invite in safety and repair with integrity .

What would it be like to walk through a world that is like that ?

January in 🇴🇲 reminded me that it is ok to slow down and that through a slower rhythm we can accomplish just as much.

However it also reminded me that in order for this to work those around you also have to move slower .

I think in our workplace culture we spend a lot of time telling ppl to rest, take it slow for their wellbeing (and don’t get me wrong this is needed) but why do we not tell the culture and the system to slow down … if we don’t do this we will never change anything.

Imagine a whole company choosing to not buy into urgency and burn out grind culture .
Imagine if timelines and deadlines were respectful of people’s lives and rhythms .

Would that companies business suffer? Is this what we are afraid of as workplaces , that if we slow down capitalism will leave us behind ?

Capitalism thrives on urgency . Slowing down as a whole is about choosing to create a new system . A system that would then go and extend itself to our clients, vendors, suppliers and other businesses . Maybe this would be a ripple that would help everyone adapt a different rhythm. What would success look like at this pace ?

Just some thoughts I am pondering over here as I take time to read on the beach .

Woke up from a dream and it all became clear

If you don’t know what I mean with “tough love” read through the slides, the last one says it all

When is the last time you loved like that ? If we are honest not often. We tend to love from a place of expectation , desire , assumptions, self-centeredness, fear, protection , resentment, overwhelm , dishonesty (especially with ourselves ) , scarcity

Loving softly is the most abundant act you can do rooted in deepest levels of trust and interconnected awareness.

Often we want to think our way out of situation. Just change our mindset, or just change how we think about it and voila!. Unfortuantely mindset and how we think alone is not enough.

Other times we believe that if we follow the lead of what our emotions are telling us, honor them, listen to them and then act according to what they bring up for us, things will change. Unfortuantely this alone also does not make lasting change.

➡️ What we need to really look at is how do we respond and engage with the world around us and inside of us, with our full life.

How we respond is greatly impacted by what we think and feel so we do have to learn to work with those two elements, but they are only tools that we use to ultimately choose a response which will elicit and impact and a response in our lives.

This is why this is the starting point in all of my trainings.

Capitalism has created work environments and businesses that are toxic, unhealthy, harmful and violent . But this does not have to be nature of work

To me future of work is work and business which is an agent of positive social change for all .

We need to rethink how we do work

I read somewhere that life begins after 40 and everything before is just practice (I think it was Jung that said it ). As I enter into my 45th as cliche as it may sound these words feel very true

Here is to another year in this cosmic dance , may it be full of sparkle like these photos my amazing sister took of me this year . Felt it was about time to share them

I don’t typically share my wins or successes but I think as a culture we need to change that

We need to celebrate each other and know that one persons win is a win of every person who was involved in it

As such I want to share some wins from this year with my company Circle Point Wellness

A company I took a chance on a few years back thanks to the encouraging words of my dear friend

I am so grateful for all the ways we
❤️cultivated and grew community
❤️ went together into the hard places , sat with folks willing to address and repair and prevent further harm
❤️ bridged silos and differences to catalyze change

I am grateful for
✨ all the people who attended the new Connecting For Change Leadership Dinners. When I launched them in Feb I craved a space of deep human nourishment with folks from diverse walks of life and backgrounds . What had been born is a family

✨all the people who shared so openly their stories wisdom and expertise on the Feel Good Work podcast which saw the biggest reach yet (make sure you go to the link in my bio and listen to their stories , some are tagged in the appropriate slide )

✨all the organizations and their staff who trusted us to move through difficult conflicts, build safety, heal and have the hard conversations . We trained over 1600 staff and expanded to the east coast and across the city in multi year projects

✨most of all all the new trainers that joined me on the journey this year and made one powerful team .reid .mindful.therapist .frost Wendy DeSouza, Chris Leonard and Jeff Carolin . It is an honor to work alongside you all in the spaces that we do

The biggest take away and reminder of this year is that community requires authenticity given and shared in a reciprocal way where we meet each other as kin and together create something.

Here is to more of that in 2025
