Thank you to all those who were part of our screening of the documentary film, Nova, and the panel discussion on Sunday evening at Toronto’s Prosserman JCC.

Your presence and engagement made the evening meaningful.
We were deeply moved to see how our community came together in such a powerful, emotional way.

Although many of the stories and reflections you shared were difficult, they also spoke to the strength, determination and resilience of the Jewish people and the importance of standing together in times of crisis.

While visiting Israel I had the pleasure of having breakfast at a beautiful coffee shop in the heart of Tel Aviv with Adeena Sussman.

Renowned cookbook author Adeena Sussman returns to Toronto to share an inside look at Israel since the tragic events of October 7th.

In conversation with her close friend, Bonnie Stern, Adeena will reveal a bird’s eye view of Israel’s ever-blossoming cuisine, as well as the incredible energy, resilience and creativity everyday Israelis have demonstrated in their food-related efforts to support those affected by 10/7.

With Hanukkah as her North Star, Adeena will show us how Israel continues to emerge from that fateful day, finding light and meaning emerging from disaster. Ultimately, it’s about how food can nurture, heal, and strengthen us as a community during adversity—and the art we can all play in the process.
Inspired by the conversation, appetizers will be offered for you to taste after the program.

GIven recent events, French writer Bernard-Henri Lévy’s new book, Israel Alone, is more relevant than ever.

It was great to spend some time with him recently, along with my husband Robert, who had interviewed BHL a few months earlier for an article in The Times of Israel.

To mark nine months of inhumane captivity for 120 of the 252 infants, children, women and men kidnapped in Israel by Hamas terrorists last October 7, a rally was held in Toronto today demanding their freedom. Relatives of some of the hostages spoke poignantly about their loved ones and the unmeasurable pain and anguish their families experience every day, not to mention the unimaginable suffering of the hostages themselves, at least those still alive.

How lamentable that more people in Canada and abroad, including political leaders, regardless of what they may think about the Gaza war, don’t stand up and speak out loudly about this humanitarian travesty and demand an immediate end to innocent civilians being held incommunicado in Hamas hell. My husband Robert and I were deeply moved by all the speakers at the rally, including MP Kevin Vuong and Toronto City Councillor James Pasternak. Hats off to our friend Avi Attali and the rest of the team for organizing this important event
