HEAL THE FUTURE FOR KIDS LIKE REHAN
Rehan underwent his first major surgery just hours after his birth. His complex diagnosis affecting his esophagus and trachea (EA-TEF) meant he couldn't eat properly and spent the first few months of his life on a nasogastric tube at SickKids.

HEAL THE FUTURE FOR KIDS LIKE FELIX
Félix Devigne required a highly specialized surgery to remove a rhabdomyosarcoma tumour that had grown to take over most of his abdomen. At seven months of age, Félix and his family flew to Toronto from their home in Winnipeg to get a surgery at SickKids that few other institutions could perform. The tumour weighed 1,300 grams making up approximately 15 per cent of Félix's body weight. It had "parasitized" blood vessels from every nearby surface and was connected to vital organs.

October is Occupational Therapy Month and we're recognizing the team at SickKids who support children like Scarlett, who was born with her organs outside her body. "The Occupational Therapy team has helped us with everything!" says Scarlett's mom Amanda. One of the initiatives the Therapy team is currently piloting at the hospital aims to standardize terminology for recommendations made for children with swallowing problems, also known as dysphagia.
