My name is Dr. Jenna Priestap ND and I am FIERCELY passionate about women’s health with a specific interest in supporting new mothers in their new endeavour of becoming a mama (whether it is your first or fifth-you are a new mama every time!). Here’s a little more about me:

I pursued a degree in Kinesiology at the University of Waterloo where I graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology degree with Dean’s Honours List distinction. During my time at UW, I had the full intention of going to conventional medical school but did not feel like the medical model fit my values of looking at the person as a whole yet all other professions seemed to focus solely on mental health or physical health. I spent time with multiple professionals trying to find one that spoke to me and was love struck when I found naturopathic medicine. I had finally found a profession which strived to find the root cause of disease and not just treat symptoms, tailored treatments specifically to each patient’s needs, as well as look at the person as a whole and honouring that mental, spiritual and physical health are intertwined.

I spent 4 years studying naturopathic medicine at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in North York, Ontario. It was then that I was hit with the realization that the amount of supportive information for expectant mothers was lacking. When I had my daughter, I quickly realized that when a baby is born, so is a mother and not only had to juggle taking care of this new life but discover this new identity I had. I was no longer just Jenna the student, I was Jenna the student + Mom/ultimate milk-producer/diaper changing rookie/a hormonal roller coaster and had NO IDEA how to navigate this new adventure. Who knew that breastfeeding was so hard? Why do my nipples hurt so badly? Will I ever feel human again? Why am I all of a sudden so anxious? Why am I so emotional and what can I do to feel like myself again? Upon looking for support, I was once again hit with the realization that the resources available for new mothers is largely lacking and found my path. I knew then that I was meant to advocate for new moms and help support women in this crazy period of life. I have since had a second daughter who keeps me busy and has once again taught me what being a mother means.

As moms we tend to put everyone first and leave our needs to last. Let me be the person to take care of you and answer all of your health-related questions that I know are buzzing in your head. I want to help optimize your health so you can fully embody this new identity and thrive. I will be the person to take care of you while you take care of everyone else.
