Redford Osteopathy

Redford Osteopathy My philosophy is that healing the body is a journey. There is no magic to health. Eating healthy food, exercising regularly and managing stress are the key

Let your self experiment with your body and try these two exercises as I have shown you in this video.

Repeating a stretch or an exercise throughout your workout where you always feel tight and or restricted can be super helpful. With this method you can start to figure out which exercises in your routine are helping you the most with your specific tightness.

It is so much fun to keep on trying new stretches and exercises. You just might unlock some magic that allows your body to become more aligned!

Releasing the inner layer of tension in the body is what I am most curious about when I work with patients.

Thank you for watching!

Sleep is so important. Having a sleep routine that you repeat each night before bed is helpful to signal your body that it is time to sleep.

This exercise is simply done lying in bed. I recommend being comfortable lying on your back. Start to belly breath as you flex your wrists and your feet. Then extend the wrists and feet. Continue this motion in a gentle manner with your belly breathing.

Please let me know in the comments below if you are a good sleeper or have trouble getting the right amount of sleep for you.

Thank you so much for watching.

Today's topic is all about SCAR tissue in the body.

If you have scar tissue you want to make sure that the tissue is mobile! Scar tissue can create a fixity - a part of the scar that does not move well. The other tissue in the area must adjust and find a different way - a new pattern of movement.

You can massage it gently yourself or see a practitioner that can help assess and treat the area.

Lavender essential oil is also a great idea to rub on a fully healed scar.

Let me know if you have any scars in your body. If you think scar tissue might be contributing to pain or discomfort try the recommendations in this video.

To have optimal functioning of the pelvic floor the breathing pattern must be connected.
Here is the link to my breath mechanics video for your reference • Improve Your Breathing Mechanics!

Here I explain how to GENTLY connect your breath to the motion of the pelvic floor.

Keep in mind that the pelvic floor has both slow and fast twitch muscles so both of these fibres need to be addressed in a pelvic floor routine.

A hugely important part of this routine is the RELAXATION phase! Often the pelvic floor is over working and we need to train these muscles to relax. If the pelvic floor muscles are over firing then it is not possible to have optimal function.

It is interesting that muscles that are over working are not necessarily strong. Especially when they function as postural muscles, this makes them weak.

This same routine shown in the lying position can also be done in the seated position and even in the standing position as you progress.

Are you a walker or a runner? Give this exercise a try!

I recommend doing this exercise before you go for a walk or a run. It focuses on improving alignment from the toes, up the leg and hip and even into the posture alignment in your upper body.

You don't have to do a lot of reps of this exercise to get the benefit. I recommend doing 4-6 reps each side and do 2 sets. You are not trying to tire out these muscles you are trying to engage in a great pattern during the toe off phase of the running and walking motion.

I mention the foot exercise video - here is the link to it. https://youtu.be/1tD7Gn1tq7o?si=7MXi_Xo-H7YK_QHW

Give this exercise a try and let me know how aligned you were able to keep your toes.

Yesterday I was working with a patient and this is how I assessed and discovered the right exercises to improve his specific alignment.

You can do this with your exercise routine too.

Pick a stretch that you know you are limited in doing. Or that you are not balanced with the right and left side. Now do an exercise and then retest that stretch and see how it feels. You can sort out which exercises directly correct whatever your body is limited in doing.

Let me know in the comments below which range of motion your body feels the tightest in?

Table Top with ROTATION Exercise!

This is my favourite exercise for helping back pain. Once you are out of any acute pain, this exercise is wonderful for PREVENTING further back issues.

We tend to injure our spine when we are doing a ROTATION movement. Therefore we need to strengthen our spines in this motion safely during our workouts.

Think of this exercise as a rehab exercise so don't use a lot of intensity and reps, but DO use a lot of precision and awareness as you do the motion 4-6 reps each side.

Put this exercise into your warm up or cool down part of your workout.
