Meghan Telpner on sun exposure. A must read

So much wrong in this one statement- made by a dermatologist in response to Gwyneth Paltrow declaring 15 minutes of sun exposure being healthy.
Please know- The sun itself is not a carcinogen. It is the source of life to all things on this planet. The sun has not changed, we have- filling our bodies with toxic, hydrogenated oils, processed sugars and coating our bodies in the chemical cocktails we call cosmetics.
Oxybenzone, one of the most common sunscreen ingredients has been shown to become cell disrupting and carcinogenic when exposed to sunlight. Sunscreen also blocks the production of vitamin D- deficiency of this nutrient has been linked to everything from digestive problems, depression, multiple sclerosis, osteoporosis, and basal cell carcinoma (yes- skin cancer). Rates of melanoma have been shown to increase with reduced sunshine exposure.
Additionally- sunscreen gives people the belief that they are safe to lie out and bake in the sun- that is when it becomes toxic. Our DNA is better able to repair from sunburn, than from the effects of baking in the sun with sunscreen on.
To suggest that vitamin D is best taken in by a pill- where the vitamin is processed from the lanolin of Australian sheep, shipped to china to be synthesized with corn and then taken in a synthetic supplement in a form that is not effectively absorbed by the body doesn't make any logical sense.
Your best defense as always, is prevention! Get sun early in the morning or late in the afternoon, wear a hat, seek shade and try light long sleeves if you have to be out in high sun hours, consume loads of fresh, local, seasonal antioxidant loaded berries and greens, avoid consuming processed oils, and use zinc oxide as a sun deflector for more sensitive or fairer skin.
